COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Behind a fast start, balanced offensive attack, and a career program record falling highlighted a big night for Ursinus Football as they defeated McDaniel 56-17 on Friday night at Patterson Field in Centennial Conference action.
With the win, the Bears improved to 4-2 overall and 3-2 in Centennial Conference play. Meanwhile, the Green Terror fell to 2-4 overall and 2-3 in conference action.
Senior quarterback
Jack Psenicska set a pair of milestones against the Green Terror as he passed Thomas Garlick for the Ursinus Football all-time career passing touchdown record and became the fourth Ursinus quarterback to throw for over 5,000 yards in his career. Psenicska was razor sharp against McDaniel by going 17-of-24 through the air for 202 yards and three touchdown passes. He also added a rushing touchdown on the ground as well. Sophomore
Justin Collier caught two of Psenicska's touchdown passes and finished with four catches for 41 yards. Senior
Zachary Throne led all Bear receivers with 84 yards on four catches with one score.
Sophomore quarterback
Jalen Bradford served as one of the lead backs for the Bears and rushed for a career-high 123 yards on nine carries while scoring two touchdowns. Bradford got some work under center and went 4-of-5 for 48 yards through the air. Junior
Dawson Fresses totaled 59 rushing yards on 15 carries and scored the first two touchdowns of his collegiate career.
Ursinus made quick work of their first drive after senior
Nick Schnaars returned the opening kickoff 46 yards to the McDaniel 45-yard line, nearly breaking it for a touchdown. Bradford darted up the middle on the Bears sixth play of the drive from eight yards out to put Ursinus up 7-0 at the 12:01-mark of the first quarter. The Green Terror responded with a 29-yard field goal on their first drive to make it 7-3 behind completing a 27-yard pass down the sideline deep into Bears territory. Psenicska went back to work and went 4-of-4 passing on the drive, capping it off with a 12-yard strike to Collier to make it a 14-3 game at the 3:24-mark of the first quarter.
The Bears defense forced a three-and-out on the ensuing Green Terror drive and added to its lead in the opening minute of the second quarter when Psenicska found Throne for a touchdown on 4th and 2 from the six yard line, bringing the score to 21-3. Senior defensive lineman Jack Ginley put the Bears back in business at the Green Terror 23 yard line after punching out the ball from McDaniel quarterback Jared Snow off a sack. Dallas Evans to put the Bears in a goal to go situation before taking it himself two plays later from four yards out to make it 28-3. McDaniel ended the Bears 21-point scoring run on their next drive when Snow found Hunter Sigler for a 15-yard touchdown pass and cut the deficit down to 28-10 with 8:01 left in the first half. The Green Terror took advantage of a roughing the passer call on the Bears that would have left them at 4th and 20 from the Ursinus 30 yard line. The Bears pinned the Green Terror on their own one yard line off a punt and forced another fumble to set themselves once again up in excellent field position. Sophomore
Aaron Anderson stripped the ball following a McDaniel completion that was recovered by senior
William Tatlonghari. Psenicska immediately went to the end zone and threaded the needle through two defenders to find Collier for his record breaking touchdown while putting the Bears up 35-10 into the half.
Ursinus staved off a long completion on the first play of the second half from McDaniel to force a punt and eventually pinned the Green Terror on their own one yard line for the second time in the game. Snow fumbled the snap on third down from the one yard line to put the Bears right on their goal line to start the next drive. Fresses punched it in one play later to make it a 42-10 game at the 9:40-mark of the third quarter. The opportunistic Bears defense came through again on the next drive when sophomore
Anthony Esposito picked off Snow on the second play of the drive to put the Bears at the McDaniel 39 yard line. Psenicska lofted a pass to Throne for a 42-yard gain on 3rd and 14 to put Ursinus at the one yard line that would be capped off by Fresses once again to extend the advantage to 49-10. Following another stop from the Bears defense, Bradford relieved Psenicska late in the third quarter and scored the final Ursinus touchdown of the night on a 31-yard run at the 1:31-mark.

Ryan Bodolus led the Bears with seven tackles apiece while Bodolus added 2.0 TFL and 1.5 sacks. Senior
Ethan Belville added five tackles (two solo) and 2.5 TFL with 0.5 sack. Ginley recorded a sack, forced a fumble, and recovered a fumble while senior
Brett Gross added six tackles (two solo).
The Bears return to action on Saturday, October 22nd as they will host Moravian at 1 p.m. for their annual homecoming game.
