Women's Soccer Downed by No. 4 Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE, MD. – The Ursinus College women's soccer team battled throughout the afternoon but eventually fell to the No.4 Johns Hopkins on Saturday afternoon, 5-0.
 
With the loss, the Bears fell to 4-5-4 overall and 1-4-2 in Centennial Conference action. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays improved to 11-0-2 on the season and a perfect 7-0 conference record.
 
The Blue Jays earned the first opportunity of the contest in the 11th minute, as Katie Sullivan created space in the box and fired a left-footed shot directly at Bears' junior goalkeeper Maddie Nau. In the 13th minute, Nau was credited with her second save of the contest after a Blue Jays corner. Nau was knocked down as the Bears defense deflected the corner opportunity towards the edge of the box. Johns Hopkins' Rachel Jackson sent a shot on net into the hands of Nau.
 
The Bears defense saved two more opportunities in the 16th minute as Nau made a leaping save on a shot from Sullivan to keep the score tied 0-0. The pressure from the Blue Jays finally broke through in the 17th minute, as Sullivan scored after an assist from Callie Jones and Breukelen Woodard. In the 26th minute, the Blue Jays added another goal as Woodward scored to make the score 2-0. Johns Hopkins added an insurance goal in the 35th minute, as Maria Romo-Nichols scored to increase the Blue Jays lead to three heading into halftime.
 
In the 50th minute, Nau and the Bears defense made back-to-back saves to keep the deficit at three. Johns Hopkins added two more insurance goals in the second half, as Kendall Dandridge and Rebecca Rosen each scored. In the 85th minute, junior Ciara Rago created an opportunity and fired a shot on net, but it was denied by the Blue Jays defense.
 
Allyson Shick earned the victory in net for the Blue Jays earning one save, while for the Bears' Nau collected 11 saves on the afternoon including six in the second half. 

The Bears will return to action on Wednesday traveling to Penn State Abington for a non-conference matchup starting at 4pm.
