GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Behind a total all-around performance, the Ursinus football team rolled to a dominant 51-16 win over Gettysburg on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference play.
With the win, the Bears earned their third-straight win as they improved to 6-2 overall and 5-2 in Centennial Conference action. Ursinus has now scored over 50 points in two of its last three contests. Meanwhile, the Bullets fell to 1-7 overall and 1-6 in conference action.
Senior quarterback
Jack Psenicska kept his record-breaking season going by setting a new single game program record with six touchdown passes. He finished the day going 21-of-34 for 336 yards while also eclipsing the single-season touchdown pass record that was held by Chris Curran in 2012.
Senior wide receiver
Dallas Evans also had a big day for the Bears by racking up a career-high 129 yards on five catches with two touchdown receptions. Sophomore
Justin Collier continued his breakout season by catching three passes for 36 yards and two touchdown receptions. Sophomore
Tommy Quinn impressed late in the contest by catching two passes for 46 yards while classmate
Michael D'Amico caught Psenicska's other touchdown pass for his first collegiate score.
Junior
Dawson Fresses recorded 107 yards on 11 carries for his first collegiate 100+ yard game. Sophomore
Jaden Louis recorded his first collegiate touchdown as well and posted 19 yards on three carries.
After a trio of punts opened the first quarter, the Bears got things going on their second drive of the game when Psenicska found Evans for a 43-yard reception down to the Bullets 11 yard line. Psenicska found Collier from four yards out to put the Bears up 7-0 at the 6:11-mark of the first quarter. Senior
Kevin DePrince nearly returned a punt for a touchdown after the Bullets ensuing drive but set up his offense to extend the lead to 14-0 after D'Amico snatched a short toss from Psenicska.
The Bears overcame a muffed punt when senior linebacker
Brett Gross sacked Bullets quarterback Mason Stolarik and returned it for what seemed to be a touchdown. A personal foul penalty brought the drive back to the Gettysburg 23 yard line but Psenicska needed just one play to find Collier for a score and push the advantage to 21-0. The Bullets drove deep into Bears territory on their next drive and made it as far as the Ursinus 10 yard line before being stopped on fourth down. Ursinus went back to work on offense and Psenicska capped a 90-yard drive by finding
Dallas Evans from 27 yards out to bring the advantage to 28-0 with 3:22 left in the second quarter. The Bears completed their big first half with a sharp two-minute drive that ended with Psenicska finding Evans again, this time from two yards out, to make it a 35-0 game.
The Bears picked up where they left off to start the second half when as Evans snatched his third touchdown reception of the game to make it a 42-0 game. Senior kicker
Dakota Wherrity added to the Bears lead with a 36-yard field goal on their ensuing drive before Louis capped the scoring with a seven-yard rushing touchdown late in the third quarter.
Ursinus held a 561-341 advantage in total yards with 428 coming through the air, the first 400-yard total passing yard game for the Bears since racking up 465 against McDaniel in 2015. Gross finished with six tackles (four solo), one sack, along with one forced fumble and recovery. Junior
Ryan Bodolus recorded five tackles and two sacks in the win.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, November 5th as they will travel to face Juniata at 12 p.m.
