Moore Scores Two in Field Hockey's 3-0 Win over Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Senior Jordan Moore netted a pair of goals as Ursinus Field Hockey picked up a 3-0 win on the road against Muhlenberg in Centennial Conference action on Wednesday night.

With the win, the Bears leveled their overall record at 5-5 while improving to 2-1 in Centennial Conference action. Meanwhile, the Mules fell to 4-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

Muhlenberg got the first two shots off in the opening two minutes of the game with one being kicked away by Bears senior goalkeeper Jordan Ulsh. It became all Bears in the first quarter after those opening two minutes as they pressed the Mules by gaining four penalty corners. The fourth corner came in the final minute of the quarter after the Bears peppered the net with shots, and the Bears finally broke through when Moore ripped a shot from the top center of the circle to make it 1-0. Sophomore Mary Lauren Franz extended the Bears lead to 2-0 in the second quarter after sneaking the ball past the Mules goalkeeper from a tough angle in the 22nd minute. Senior Sarah Symes pushed a ball into the circle which made its way to Franz on the front right side of the cage.

The Bears went right to work in the second half as they earned back-to-back corners in the opening minute. Senior Laura Rothschild connected with Moore on the second one for her second goal of the game and a 3-0 Ursinus lead. The Ursinus defense continued shutting down the Mules from getting any decent chances off in the third quarter as the lone shot that reached goal was easily kicked away by Ulsh. Sophomore Maeve Montgomery sent a shot just wide of the cage in the 39th minute from another penalty corner chance that nearly extended the Bears lead. Franz opened the fourth with a shot from the front right side of the net that was kicked away. Ulsh sprawled out on the right side of the circle to save a chance from the Mules and the Bears blocked a pair of shots following an ensuing penalty corner. Ursinus held Muhlenberg without a shot for the rest of the game.

Each team tallied 11 shots in the contest and the Bears held a 7-3 edge in shots on goal. Rothschild added a pair of assists to stretch her Centennial-leading mark to 10 on the season.
