CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Ursinus men's basketball team dropped a 104-90 contest to Alvernia in the consolation game of the DeSales Al Senavitis Tournament on Friday evening.

Ryan Hughes led five Bears in double-figures with a team-high 17 points behind going 7-of-8 from the field. Hughes was also named to the All-Tournament team behind his two double-figure scoring games in the tournament. Sophomore
Marlin Wise added a career-high 16 points behind going 8-of-10 from the field and freshman
Nick Nocito posted 14 points off the bench after going 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.
The Bears hit the first two baskets of the game to take an early 4-0 lead at the 18:48-mark before Alvernia used a 13-2 run to go up 13-6. Ursinus responded by rallying with a 10-2 run to go up 16-15 at the 13:51-mark of the first half. Following back and forth action throughout the next four minutes, the Golden Wolves used a 22-7 run after leading 27-26 to take their largest lead of the half at 49-33 with 1:03 left until the halftime break.
Ursinus closed out the first half with the final three points and scored the first two points of the second half from a Wise layup to cut the Alvernia lead down to 49-38. However, the Golden Wolves responded with seven-straight points to go up 56-38 at the 18:16-mark of the second half. The Bears used a 13-4 run to cut the lead down to nine points at 60-51 with 15:46 left in the second half, but that would be the last time the Bears cut the deficit down to single digits as Alvernia used a 22-9 run to take their largest lead of the game at 82-63 at the 10:41-mark.
The Bears shot 52.5 percent (32-of-61) from the field and shot 33.3 percent (7-of-21) from three-point range. Ursinus went 73.1 percent (19-of-26) from the free throw line as well. Meanwhile, the Golden Wolves shot 53.4 percent (39-of-73 from the field behind going 63.6 in the second half and a solid 51.7 (15-of-29) from beyond the arc. Alvernia went 11-of-17 (64.7%) from the free throw line and held a dominant 36-29 rebounding advantage.
Ursinus returns to action on Wednesday, January 4th as they will host Washington College at 6 p.m. for Centennial Conference play.
