Men's Tennis Bested by No. 28 Haverford

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Ursinus Bears men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 Centennial Conference match to No. 28 Haverford on Tuesday night at Perkiomen Valley High School.

 

 

With the loss, the Bears fell to 7-5 overall and 2-3 overall in Centennial Conference action. Meanwhile, the Fords improved to 8-5 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

 

 

Haverford won three competitive doubles points to take an early 3-0 lead in the match. At the third doubles spot, the duo of junior Noah Mandel and sophomore Ethan Yu fell 8-4 to Jason Edmonds and Justin Minerva. Haverford's George Jiang and Stefan Johnson defeated the Bears duo of sophomores Lars Jespersen and Will Oberholtzer 8-5 at the No. 1 singles position before sophomores Darby Rogers and Rob Ritchie were defeated in the No. 2 doubles spot by Patrick Kley and Adam Chow by a score of 8-4.  

 

 

In singles, Minerva earned the first point by defeating Yu 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles and James McKenzie locked up the match for Haverford with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Rogers. Chow defeated Ritchie 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 singles before Jiang took down Jespersen 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Kirin Eicher earned a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles over Mandel and Oberholtzer was edged 7-5, 7-5 at the No. 2 position by Danny Loder.

 

 

The Bears will return to action on Saturday, April 16th as they will take on their second-straight nationally ranked opponent in No. 20 Johns Hopkins at 12:00 p.m.
