ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - Sophomore
Olivia Losurdo notched her first career goal as the Ursinus College women's soccer team blanked Eastern, 1-0, in their season opener on the road from Olson Field.
Junior
Hannah Brainsky tested Eastern's goalkeeper early into the contest during the 11
th minute as a free kick opportunity just missed off the top of the crossbar. Fellow classmate
Izzy Allocco followed up with a long-range shot saved by the Eagles goalkeeper Brooke Moskey.
Ursinus continued the pressure on the offensive end firing three more shots over the next four minutes with two finding Moskey's gloves.
In the 33
rd minute, Losurdo subbed into the contest and pushed her first shot to the right of the net. The difference maker would come in the 40
th minute as Losurdo battled with an Eagles defender and after creating space in the middle of the field, launching a shot that tucked into the left side of the net to make the score 1-0.
At halftime, the Bears held a sizeable lead 8-0 in shots while leading 1-0 in corner kicks. In the 53
rd minute, after a corner kick sizzled in from the sideline, Ursinus had two great chances but headers from
Morgan Raley and Brainsky each were denied by the Eagles defense. Just a few minutes later, Raley created another opportunity, but her low shot was saved by Moskey.
Later in the second half, sophomore
Grace Senese fired two shots on goal, but each were denied by the Eagles defense. Eastern's Gianna Festino served up the Eagles best chance of the night in the final minute, but a save from
Kaela Frenchman gave the Bears a 1-0 victory on the road.
Junior goalkeeper
Kaela Frenchman earned the shutout in net, earning one save through 90 minutes of action. Meanwhile, for the Eagles first-year Brooke Moskey was created with seven total saves including four in the second half. Ursinus finished with 18 shots compared to just three for Eastern's offense, while also leading in corner kicks 6-1.
The Bears will return to action on Sunday as they travel to Maryland for a 12pm match with Stevenson University.
