WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Ursinus Field Hockey team scored two goals in the first 10 minutes of the game as they defeated Catholic 3-2 in non-conference action on Saturday evening.
With the win, the Bears improved to 2-3 overall as they earned their second-straight win over the Cardinals following last season's win. Meanwhile, Catholic of the Landmark Conference fell to 3-3 overall.
The Bears went on the attack early and drew their first penalty corner in the fourth minute of action. Senior

Jordan Moore at the top of the circle and her swing made it through traffic to put the Bears in front 1-0. Catholic wasted little time tying the game at one just 54 seconds later following a quick rush. Keeping the scoring action going in the first 10 minutes, Moore netted her second of the game in the eighth minute to put Ursinus back in front at 2-1. First-year
Lauren Breisch intercepted a Cardinals pass at midfield and found Moore on the run. Moore gave it over to senior
Addie Plummer and she dished it forward back to Moore to set her up for the goal. Ursinus took advantage of their first penalty corner of the second quarter as senior
Lauren Weaver took a shot from the left circle after getting the initial pass from Rothschild. Ursinus held Catholic without a shot in the second quarter and took a two goal lead into the half.
Catholic capitalized on their first penalty corner awarded in the third quarter and scored to cut the Bears lead down to 3-2 just four minutes in. Weaver tried to beat the Cardinals goalkeeper from the same area she did in the second quarter but had her shot stopped in the 43rd minute. Each team traded decent chances in the fourth quarter, but the Bears were able to hold on for the win. Catholic was awarded a pair of penalty corners in the final nine seconds of action and had a shot blocked by Weaver to end the game.
The Bears held an 18-11 shot advantage for the contest and a 10-5 edge in shots on goal. Ursinus also held a slight 10-8 advantage in penalty corners as well. Sophomore
Makayla Baessler made three saves to earn her first win of the season after playing the full 60 minutes. Cardinals goalkeeper Abigail Kearney made seven saves despite suffering the loss.
Ursinus returns to action on Wednesday, September 21st as they will host 11th-ranked TCNJ at 7 p.m.
