Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Downed by Gettysburg, 1-0

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Women's Soccer team suffered a 1-0 setback to Gettysburg in their Centennial Conference home opener on Saturday afternoon at Patterson Field.

With the loss, the Bears fall to 2-2-1 overall while starting Centennial action 0-1. Meanwhile, the Bullets improved to 2-2-1 and will start Centennial play 1-0.

Ursinus nearly got a shot off in the opening seconds of the game as the opening kick took a favorable bounce into the Gettysburg end before being scooped up by the Bullets goalkeeper. The Bullets had a shot ring off the crossbar in the sixth minute of action. Senior Izzy Allocco sent a long ball into the box in the 10th minute that was caught by the Bullets goalkeeper. The Bullets had a header from a corner kick go wide in the 25th minute before having a shot from the middle saved on target by Bears junior goalkeeper Kaela Frenchman. Ursinus had its best chance in the 31st minute when junior Liv Morrow sent a shot just wide of the net after classmate Alex Chalmers sent her a ball through the middle.

After that chance, the Bullets began to control play and was inches away from getting onto the scoreboard before Allocco sent a ball out that beat Frenchman near the line of the goal. However, Gettysburg finally broke through in the 42nd minute when Ashley Carbonier scored after sneaking the ball past Frenchman following a great feed from teammate Molly O'Shea. First-year Alicia Page had the Bears best chance in the second half as she snuck a ball through the middle, but had the shot stopped by the Bullets goalkeeper. The Bullets gained possession throughout the majority of the second half and outshot the Bears 9-2 in the final 45 minutes. Allocco ripped a shot from the far left side with just over a minute and a half left that sailed wide of the net. The Bears were unable to get pressure on the net in the final minute of play.

Gettysburg held a 19-7 shot advantage for the game and a 6-3 edge in shots on goal. The Bullets also held a sizable 9-1 advantage in corner kicks. Frenchman suffered the loss after making four saves in the full 90 minutes. Caitlin Amman earned the win for the Bullets after tallying three saves in the full 90 minutes.

The Bears return to action on Wednesday, September 21st as they will travel to face Bryn Mawr at 4:00 p.m. in Centennial action.
