Women's Soccer Battles Arcadia to 1-1 Draw

COLLEGEVILLE, PA. – An evening filled with great defense and plenty of rain saw the Ursinus College women's soccer team battle to a 1-1 draw against Arcadia University on Wednesday evening from Patterson Field.

With the draw the Bears move to 2-0-1 on the season, meanwhile the Knights of MAC Freedom are 0-3-1 on the campaign.

The visiting Knights controlled the pace over the first ten minutes of the match, netting the first two shots on net. In the 13th minute, Arcadia's Rachael Mahlau-Heinert fired a great shot from 35 yards out, but just a tad high connecting with the crossbar. Ursinus answered with shots of their own over the next ten minutes, as Izzy Allocco's shot missed wide and Ciara Rago's shot was saved by Abigail Fuchs. With seven minutes remaining in the half, Hannah Brainsky had a free kick opportunity, but her cross was a tad high and saved by the Knights keeping the score tied at zero heading into halftime.

The Bears were first to strike early in the second half as a free kick opportunity from Izzy Allocco hit the crossbar, finding sophomore Emmy Sinnett in front of the net. Sinnett used a header in between two defenders to put the Bears up 1-0 for her first career goal.

With just under 15 minutes remaining in the game, Arcadia's Emily Di Silverio found teammate Isabella Pures in the middle of the field. Pures used a through ball to teammate Amanda Thaler who snuck her shot past the Bears defense to tie the game at one a piece.

The Bears responded with a shot in the 80th minute from first-year Adriana Careless, but Arcadia's goalkeeper Jordan Polen earned the save.  Ursinus had one more final opportunity in the final seconds of the match as first-year Kalli Roskos put a cross into the box, but Polen made the stop for the Knights to finish the contest as a draw.

The Knights finished the contest with a slight 11-10 edge in shots and a 2-0 advantage in corner kick opportunities. Junior goalkeeper Kaela Frenchman earned six saves in net for the Bears, meanwhile Abigail Fuchs and Polen each played 45 minutes earning two saves each for the Knights.

The Bears will return to action on Saturday as they will host Montclair State University at 4:30pm from Patterson Field.
