HAVERFORD, Pa. – Behind two first half goals, The Ursinus College women's soccer team fell to Haverford College, 3-0 on Wednesday evening from Walton Field.
With the defeat, Ursinus moved to 4-6-3 overall and 0-4-2 in Centennial Conference action. Meanwhile, the Fords improved to 6-6-1 on the season and 2-4 in conference play.
The Fords recorded the first scoring opportunity during the 10
th minute, as Haverford's Grace Haskell tallied back-to-back shots, but each shot was saved by Ursinus senior netminder
Maddie Nau. Haverford capitalized on their next scoring opportunity behind a curling shot from Liv McMillian to grab a 1-0 advantage at the 15:12-mark. The Bears responded with a shot of their own during the 21
st minute as sophomore
Kalli Roskos fired a shot high of the goal. At the 27:38-mark, Ursinus nearly found the equalizer, but sophomore
Alicia Page had her scoring opportunity saved by Haverford's goalie Allie Billups. The Fords extended their lead to two at the 29:30-mark as Haverford's Phoebe Garfield found Haskell past the Bears defense for the one-on-one scoring chance. Just before halftime, the Bears defense denied a trio of scoring opportunities from the Fords to keep the deficit at two at the break.
During the opening minutes of the second half, the Bears defense and Nau stood tall again denying back-to-back Haverford scoring chances to keep the deficit at two. During the 56
th minute, Roskos recorded a shot on goal, but her chance was saved by the Fords. The Bears offense nearly broke through in the 74
th minute as first-year
Sam Wechsler made a move past the Fords netminder resulting in an open net. Wechsler's shot on goal was headed out of danger by a Fords defender to preserve the Haverford lead at two. Haverford added a late goal during the 86
th minute in route to the 3-0 Centennial Conference victory.
The Fords held a 21-8 shot advantage including a 13-4 edge in corner kicks. Haverford's Allie Billups recorded the victory in goal behind three saves, while Nau suffered the loss collecting nine saves in 90 minutes of action.
The Bears will return to action on Saturday, October 14
th as they host Bryn Mawr College at 5 p.m.
