COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Senior
Liv Morrow scored a goal late in the second half to send Ursinus Women's Soccer to a 1-0 win over Bryn Mawr in rainy conditions on Saturday evening in Centennial Conference action.
With the win, the Bears improved to 5-6-3 overall and 1-4-2 in Centennial Conference action. Meanwhile, the Owls fell to 3-7-2 overall and 0-6-1 in conference play.
The two teams battled for possession in the first 20 minutes in the first half as senior
Ciara Rago sent the first shot of the game wide right in the 24th minute. Bryn Mawr nearly got on the board in the 34th minute when they sent a shot that Bears senior goalkeeper
Maddie Nau tapped off the crossbar and had another shot just go wide. First-year
Madison Bjorndahl had a shot saved in the 40th minute to keep the game scoreless.
Ursinus had more sustained pressure to start the second half as they three shots early wide of the net. Sophomore
Adriana Careless barely missed the net with a shot to the right from the box during the 69th minute. Morrow finally broke through for the Bears when she poked in a corner kick from senior
Izzy Allocco in the 79th minute. Bryn Mawr had an excellent chance to tie things in the 83rd minute when Lourdes Sankar got past Bear defenders but sent her shot just wide right of the net. The Owls sent a long shot towards the net with 2:02 left in regulation that was handled by Nau and the Bears held on from there.
The Bears held a slight 12-8 shot advantage for the game and each team had three shots on goal. Ursinus also held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks as well. Nau made three saves to earn the shutout and the win during the full 90 minutes. Owls goalkeeper Aliya Stubenbord suffered the loss after making two saves and allowing one goal in the 90 minutes.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, October 21st as they will host Dickinson at 4:00 p.m. for senior day.
