COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus baseball team struggled to get the bats going as they dropped a 7-0 contest to Immaculata in non-conference action on Friday afternoon at Thomas Field.
Freshman starting pitcher
Dan Bass escaped a bases loaded jam in the top of the first with a strikeout after the Mighty Macs attempted to put a two-out rally together. Bass continued to dazzle as he tossed six shutout innings for the Bears before exiting prior to the seventh inning. Both teams were unable to string hits together and advance a runner past second base until the seventh inning when Immaculata loaded the bases with one out. The Migty Macs then broke the scoreless tie with a sacrifice fly before a force out at second prevented more damage. A home run extended the Immaculata advantage to 2-0 in the top of the eighth inning before they broke the game open with five runs in the top of the ninth.
Bass continued his impressive start to his collegiate career by allowing four hits while striking out seven in his six innings of work, walking just two. Junior
T.J. Snyder was saddled with the loss after allowing the first three Mighty Mac runs in 2.1 innings out of the bullpen. Three different Bears recorded hits in the contest.
Jason Hughes shut down the Bears staff by allowing just three hits in his complete-game shutout and striking out eight with just one walk on 114 pitches.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, March 25th as they will travel to face Rutgers-Camden for a doubleheader starting at 11:30 a.m.
