ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Ursinus softball team downed Elizabethtown 7-2 in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon. The Blue Jays won game two 13-12.
Game 1: Ursinus 7, Elizabethtown 2
The game went scoreless into the top of the third until the Bears scored their first two runs with two outs in the inning. Ursinus had runners on second and third with two outs and a throwing error at shortstop off a grounder from senior
Amanda Panati scored both runs. First-year
Kayla Carr crushed a home run to left center field to lead off the top of the fourth to put Ursinus up 3-0, setting the tone for a five-run fourth inning. Junior

Allyson Meakim advanced to second and third base following hits and junior
Sara Sullivan brought them both home with a double to make it 5-0. A fielding error on a fly ball allowed Sullivan advance to third before scoring off a groundout by junior
Madison Wilson to extend the lead to 6-0. Sophomore
Samantha Mallen capped the inning with a sacrifice fly to bring the score to 7-0. The Blue Jays got on the board in the bottom of the fifth with two runs behind a pair of errors followed by a single to cut the deficit down to 7-2. Sophomore
Stephanie Wichman relived first-year starter
Christa Andrusiewicz and shut down Elizabethtown in the final two innings to preserve the win. Wichman allowed just one hit while striking out a pair in the final two innings of work.
Game 2: Elizabethtown 13, Ursinus 12
The Blue Jays struck first with a home run down the left field line in the bottom of the first to take the initial 1-0 lead. Ursinus countered with eight runs off four hits in the top of the second to take an 8-1 advantage. The first two runs came off back-to-back bases loaded walks before a fielder's choice brought in the third run. Mallen singled to extend the advantage to 4-1 and Ursinus snuck a their fifth run across from a fielder's choice to third bases. Wichman blasted a double to left center to score a pair and make it a 7-1 Bears lead before a third bases loaded walk capped the inning. However, the Blue Jays ripped off seven runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at eight. Ursinus kept the run barrage going by answering with a pair in the top of the third to go up 10-8 behind an error following a walk and a double from Panati. The Blue Jays got a run back off a throwing error in the bottom of the third to make it 10-9, but Andrusiewicz in relief escaped a bases loaded one-out jam to keep Ursinus in front. Things settled for two innings as neither team scored and the Bears extended their lead to 11-9 off a sacrifice fly from Wichman. Elizabethtown responded with a pair of runs to tie the game following a pair of two-out singles with runners on first and second base. Junior
Sarah DiLello pinch hit to lead off the seventh and singled before swiping two bags to put herself at third base with no outs. Meakim ripped a single up the middle one batter later to put Ursinus in front 12-11. Unfortunately for the Bears, the lead did not last as the Blue Jays ended the game with a two-run bases loaded double in the bottom of the seventh.
The Bears return to action on Sunday, April 2nd as they will host Washington College for their Centennial Conference opening doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
