COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – A strong first half led the No. 19 Ursinus Men's Lacrosse team to a 13-7 win over McDaniel on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference action.
With the win, the Bears improved to 6-3 overall and leveled their Centennial Conference record to 1-1. Meanwhile, the Green Terror fell to 6-5 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
Ursinus set the tone early with a pair of goals in the first three minutes from seniors
Tyler Falco and
Erik Ojert to go up 2-0. The Bears continued to control play throughout the first quarter by not allowing the Green Terror to get many chances to shoot. The dominance on the defensive end allowed the Bears to add three more goals to hold a 5-0 lead after one. Senior
Tyler Neal notched his first goal of the day at the 5:18-mark and Falco added another 24 seconds later. Senior
Chase Rondeau created a fastbreak opportunity following a save and scored his first goal of the season with 11 seconds left in the first quarter. McDaniel ended the run with a goal at the 13:47-mark of the second quarter but were unable to sustain momentum. Neal countered at the 10:03-mark following a Bears timeout before Falco added his third with 4:17 left in the first half to make it 7-1. Freshman
Lars Homan capped a dominant first half with a deep rip after getting a pass from Neal to bring the score to 8-1.
Senior
Jeremy Calabro quickly extended the Bears lead to 9-1 in the first 15 seconds of the second half with his first goal of the game. Calabro then cashed in on a man-up opportunity at the 10:08-mark following a McDaniel goal and Falco followed just 39 seconds later to make it 11-2. The Bears went on a long scoring drought following the goal from Falco which allowed the Green Terror to get three goals and cut the deficit down to 11-5 entering the fourth quarter. Christopher Pucciarelli wrapped up the win for the Bears by scoring a pair of goals in the fourth quarter.
The Bears held a sizable 50-28 shot advantage for the game and a 27-16 edge in shots on goal. Ursinus held a 48-27 advantage in ground balls behind a dominant showing in the faceoff x, winning 19 of the 24 faceoffs in the contest. Junior Bears goalkeeper
Jonathan Singer earned the win after making eight saves in 56 minutes of action. Senior
Quinn Watson closed the game out and made one save. Green Terror goalie Brighton Lorber suffered the loss after making 14 saves in 60 minutes.
Falco led the Bears with a career-high four goals while Neal posted five points behind two goals and three assists.
The Bears return to action one week later on Saturday, April 8th as they will host Haverford at 12:00 p.m.
