BROOKLYN, NY. – Sophomore
Julian Faust collected his first career hat-trick in his collegiate debut leading the Ursinus College Men's Soccer team to an 8-0 victory over Medgar Evers College on Friday afternoon in non-conference action.
Faust recorded two assists as well resulting in eight points on the evening which marks as the most for a Bear since Ryan Butler completed the feat in 2012 against Gwynedd Mercy. Eight goals marks as the most in a single game for the team since the 1993 season.
"It was a good game for us to get some players additional game minutes and offer them some more opportunities," Head Coach
Daniel Clitnovici said. "It's been a good preseason for us, so we wanted to make sure everybody got a chance to play as we continue to build on the start of the season."
Faust, first-year
Simon Muther, sophomore
Enver Desic, and senior
Harry Lorenc each collected their first collegiate goals in the contest. Lorenc, Muther, and Faust each finished with a team-high two assists, while junior
Patrick Tormey and sophomore
Colin Deal rounded out the scoring with a goal apiece. Junior
Zach Matik and first-year
Josiah Moore combined for the shutout in goal each collecting one save a piece.
Ursinus earned the first three scoring opportunities of the contest, before Faust found Lorenc to give the Bears an early 1-0 advantage at the 11:27-mark of the first half. After a battle with a defender on the near sideline, Faust sent a low pass through the box finding Lorenc on the back pole for the opening score. Just eight minutes later, Muther sent a shot from 26-yards out deflecting off the Cougars netminder and finding Faust in front of the net for the Bears second goal of the game.
Ursinus extended their lead to three at the 26:35-mark when Lorenc sent a cross into the box and after being deflected off the goal post, Faust connected on a shot eight yards away for the goal. The Bears scored back-to-back goals during the 36
th minute to increase their advantage to five with under ten minutes to play in the half. During a corner kick, junior
Joshua Coster sent a cross into the box finding a leaping Muther for his first career goal. Moments later during a counterattack, Desic connected on a one-timer from Muther from 18-yards out to give Ursinus a 5-0 advantage.
The Ursinus offense continued the pressure in the second half scoring three goals during a span of four minutes in route to the 8-0 victory. Deal, Faust, and Tormey each scored during the timeframe as they earned a season opening win.
For the Cougars, Taye Simon led the offense with two shots while goalkeeper Aiden Ally finished with seven saves.
