Men's Soccer Records Shutout over Penn St. Berks, 9-0

READING, Pa. – Senior Tommy Mollis and first-year Simon Muther each scored two goals apiece lifting the Ursinus College Men's Soccer team to a 9-0 victory over Penn State Berks on Sunday afternoon.

With the victory Ursinus moves to 2-0 on the short season, meanwhile the Nittany Lions of the United East Conference fall to 0-2 overall.

Ursinus quickly jumped on the board in the 5th minute to take an early 1-0 lead when sophomore Julian Faust found senior Kai Haynes for his first career goal. After a Penn State Berks shot was saved by senior goalkeeper Kirk Ransome, the Bears responded with back-to-back shots in the 13th minute that each missed wide. In the 33rd minute, junior midfielder Patrick Tormey found classmate Luke Luehrs for a goal to give Ursinus a 2-0 lead. The Bears closed out the first half with an insurance score from Mollis to extend the Bears lead to three halfway through the contest.

Just under ten minutes into the second half at the 55:59-mark, first-year midfielder Declan Curran assisted on a goal from sophomore Colin Deal to stretch the Bears advantage to four. Ursinus continued the offense pressure firing two more shots that just missed before Muther recorded his first goal of the contest with a line drive shot past the keeper. At the 71:55-mark, sophomore Enver Decic assisted Faust on his first goal of the game and fourth of the season to extend the Ursinus lead to six.  Over the next four minutes, Ursinus would add a trio of goals from Muther, Mollis, and junior Cole Hutchinson in route to their second consecutive shutout victory, 9-0.

Ursinus held a sizeable 21-3 advantage in shots and 12-2 edge in shots on target, while the Bears were awarded nine corner kicks throughout the contest. Ransome earned the victory in net collecting one save over 58 minutes of play while junior Zach Matik earned another save maintaining the goal for 31 minutes of action. For the Nittany Lions, Josh Martin was dealt the loss splitting 45 minutes of time with Colin Colebaugh and combining for three saves.
