Women's Soccer Records Draw against McDaniel, 0-0

WESTMINSTER, MD. – Behind a stellar defensive performance, the Ursinus College women's soccer team earned a 0-0 draw in their Centennial Conference opener against McDaniel on Saturday afternoon.

With the draw Ursinus moves to 3-2-1 on the season and will start 0-0-1 in conference action, meanwhile the Green Terror sit at 3-1-2 overall.

The Green Terror offense got off to a quick start firing three shots over the first seven minutes of action, but each were denied by the Bears defense and senior goalkeeper Maddie Nau. McDaniel's first shot was blocked by junior defender Tehya Harvey and after corralling the rebound, Nau earned a save on the ensuing shot to keep the Green Terror off the board. Nau tallied her second save of the contest at the 7:25-mark after McDaniel fired a low left footed shot towards the left post but into the hands of the Bears netminder. During the 30th minute Ursinus nearly struck first during a corner kick opportunity when sophomore Kalli Roskos one-timer shot was saved by the Green Terror defense. McDaniel closed out the first half with three consecutive shots, but only one was on target and was turned away by the Bears back line.

After the halftime adjustments, the Bears started the second half with back-to-back scoring opportunities with both shots being on net. On the counterattack, senior Ciara Rago received a pass from Roskos and after dribbling into the box she sent a right footed towards the right post. Rago's shot was saved after a leaping attempt leading to a loose ball in the box. First-year Madison Bjorndahl nearly connected on the loose ball, but McDaniel's goalkeeper jumped on the ball to keep the game scoreless. During the 70th minute, McDaniel responded with back-to-back shots, but each were saved by Nau in goal to keep the game tied. Nau was credited with two more saves over the closing minutes of action resulting in a scoreless draw for both squads.

McDaniel held a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal while holding a 4-1 edge in corner kick opportunities. Nau tallied 10 saves in the contest, just one shy of her career high 11 that she recorded last season against Johns Hopkins. McDaniel's Lauren Hoolahan was credited with three saves over 90 minutes of action in the draw.

The Bears will return to action on Wednesday, September 20th as they travel to Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania for a non-conference tilt against Susquehanna University.
