Box Score 2 FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Six Ursinus Men's Tennis student-athletes traveled down to Virginia over the weekend to compete at the ITA Southeast Regionals on the campus of Mary Washington.
Seniors
Lars Jespersen,
Ethan Yu, and
Darby Rogers, sophomore
Andrei Bogdan, along with first-years
Deniz Finkel and
Teddy Snyder represented the Bears at the regionals.
Jespersen highlighted the weekend by becoming the 19th player in Ursinus Men's Tennis history to earn his 50th overall win after pairing up with Finkel to win their opening B1 doubles match over Lynchburg's Sebastian Sierra and Dan Hardy, 8-5. Jespersen and Finkel knocked off Tristan Wroe and Samvid Andhare of Stevens 8-3 in the quarterfinals before eventually falling 8-2 to Kazuki Fukushima and Jaeden Mukkalaydil of Averett in the semifinals.
Bogdan and Snyder competed in the B2 doubles bracket and earned an 8-3 win over Nathan Davidson and Garrett Warren of Stevenson in the quarterfinals. The duo was edged 8-6 in the semifinals by Dillon McReynolds and Casey Coffey of Hampden-Sydney.
Rogers and Yu represented the Bears in the Championship Doubles bracket and were defeated in the round of 32 by Zac Ashtiani and Gonzalo Gentou of Franklin & Marshall, 8-5.
In singles, Jespersen competed in the championship bracket and suffered a 6-4 loss to Barrett Foster of Hampden-Sydney in the round of 64 before dropping a 6-4, 6-7, 10-7 heartbreaker to Connor Coleman of Washington & Lee in the consolation bracket.
Yu dropped an 8-3 decision to Andrew Cooper of Mary Washington in the round of 16 of the B2 singles bracket while Rogers and Snyder both won round of 16 matches of the B3 singles bracket. Rogers defeated Eshan Degamwar of Marymount 8-4 before falling 8-5 in the quarterfinals to David Kohl Perkins of Washington College. Snyder bested Thomas Davis of Hampden-Sydney 8-5 before dropping his quarterfinal match by the reverse score to Matthew Luzzi of Stevens. Finkel lost to Gonzalo 8-3 in the round of 16 of the B3 singles bracket.
The Bears will return in the spring and will host Marymount on Saturday, March 16th at 1:00 p.m.
