COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's basketball was downed 73-43 on Thursday evening by Dickinson College in Centennial Conference action.
Junior
Chinwe Irondi paced the Ursinus offensive attack finishing with 13 points and six rebounds, while senior
Natalie Mehl added six points, three rebounds, and two assists. Senior
Alison Lisanti, junior
Charlotte DiLello, and sophomore
Madison Smith each added five points for the Bears. For Dickinson, Clair Marion finished with a game-high 26 points and 10 rebounds, while Caitlin Blackman totaled 11 points behind hitting three of her four three-pointers.
The Red Devils jumped out to an early 6-0 lead through the first two minutes of action, until a three-pointer from Mehl at the 7:47-mark. Dickinson extended their lead to 10-5, before Lisanti added a three of her own to cut the deficit to two with 5:23 to play in the opening quarter. After a Red Devils turnover, Ursinus tied the contest at 10 a piece when senior
Kelly Grant dished an assist to Lisanti for a layup. Dickinson responded with a 9-0 run by connecting on a trio of three-pointers to stretch their lead to 19-10 with 1:53 to play. Irondi added two free throws on the ensuing possession, but the Red Devils ended the period on a 5-0 run and controlled a 24-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Both defenses held the opposition scoreless through the first minute of the second stanza, until a layup by the Red Devils at the 8:30-mark. Each team traded free throws before sophomore
Stephanie Donato connected on a three-pointer to cut the Bears deficit to ten. On the ensuing Bears possession,
Charlotte DiLello connected on a fast-break layup to make the score 28-20 with 5:58 to play in the half. The Red Devils responded with a 9-1 run to close the period and held a 37-21 halftime advantage.
The Bears scored the opening points of the third period behind a layup from Irondi to bring their deficit to 14 at the 9:47-mark. The Bears defense held Dickinson scoreless for nearly the first three minutes but were unable to capitalize on their scoring opportunities. The Red Devils used an 8-1 run over the next two minutes of play to extend their lead to 45-24 with 5:49 to play. Ursinus scored the next six points, before Dickinson scored eight straight points to take a 53-30 lead. The Red Devils continued to capitalize on their scoring opportunities as they outscored Ursinus 18-10 over the final period to earn a 73-43 road victory.
Dickinson College shot an efficient 45.8% (27-of-59) from the field, 52.9% (9-of-17) from the three-point line, and 83.3% (10-of-12) from the charity stripe. Meanwhile for the Bears, they shot 26.9% (14-of-52) from the field, 23.1% (3-of-13) from deep and converted on 54.5% (12-of-22) from the free-throw line.
The Bears will enjoy nearly a week off before hitting the road on Wednesday, January 17
th for a Centennial Conference matchup against Bryn Mawr College at 7 p.m.
