Wall Crosses 1,000 Career Point Mark in Men's Hoops Win over McDaniel

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Senior Trevor Wall scored his 1,000th career point as the Ursinus Men's Basketball team pulled away for an 81-63 win over McDaniel on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference action.

With the win, the Bears improved to 8-9 overall and 4-6 in Centennial Conference action. Meanwhile, the Green Terror fell to 6-10 overall and 2-8 in conference action.

Wall became the 31st player in program history to record 1,000 points for his career as he tied for the team lead in scoring with junior Marlin Wise with 21. He added four rebounds and two assists while shooting 8-of-12 from the field. Wise went 7-of-10 from the field and 2-of-4 from three-point range and provided some key baskets down the stretch for the Bears while setting a new career-high in points. Wise also hauled down six rebounds and totaled one block. Sophomore Mohamed Toure added 10 points off the bench behind going 4-of-8 from the field and nearly completed a double-double with nine rebounds.

Ursinus started strong and raced out to a 10-5 lead at the 13:46-mark of the first half. The Bears extended their lead to 29-12 behind a 19-7 run at the 4:57-mark of the first half, seemingly looking to pull away early. Wall hit his 1,000th point off a jumper at the 5:50-mark and completed a three-point play after being fouled. However, the Green Terror used a 16-5 run to get within six points at 34-28 with 1:18 left in the first. Ursinus countered the run by closing out the half with six-straight points to kill the Green Terror momentum.

The Bears put their lead back up to 14 points to start the second half at 45-31 following a three-pointer from sophomore Nick Nocito, but the Green Terror continued to hang around as they drew within eight points at 45-37. Ursinus continued to stave off potential McDaniel runs with timely baskets and kept their lead at a comfortable distance throughout the second half. The Green Terror made it a 54-38 game at the 11:15-mark of the second half only to be answered by a three-pointer from junior Jaiden Jakubowski to put the Bears lead back to nine. McDaniel used a three-pointer to get within five points at 66-61 with 3:23 left in regulation which was the closest they got to the Bears since early in the first half. However, Ursinus closed the game out with a 15-2 run in the final three minutes to win comfortably.

Ursinus shot an efficient 62.2 percent (28-of-45) from the field and went 8-of-16 (50%) from three-point range. The Bears shot a near perfect 17-of-18 (94.4%) from the free throw line and held a 35-24 edge in rebounds. Meanwhile, the Green Terror shot 37.3 percent (22-of-59) and 30 percent (9-of-30) from three-point range. McDaniel shot just 62.5 percent (10-of-16) from the free throw line and forced 17 Ursinus turnovers that led to 22 points.

The Bears return to action on Thursday, January 25th as they will travel to face Haverford at 8:00 p.m.
