Women's Soccer Battles Bryn Mawr to 1-1 Draw

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – A second half goal from the Owls tied the score as the Ursinus College women's soccer team earned a 1-1 draw against Bryn Mawr College on Saturday afternoon from Applebee Field.

With the draw, Ursinus moves to 5-6-3 overall and 0-5-2 in Centennial Conference action. Meanwhile, the Owls now sit at 4-7-3 on the season and 0-6-1 in conference play. Senior forward Kayla Harvey paced the Bears offense with third goal of the season.

Ursinus gained the early momentum as they recorded a trio of shots to open the contest, before Harvey added her third goal of the season at the 2:20-mark to give the Bears a 1-0 lead. After a Bryn Mawr turnover, senior Grace Senese nearly added a score as her shot ricochet off the post, but Harvey corralled the rebound for a goal. After a Bears shot missed high, Bryn Mawr responded with a shot of their own, but senior netminder Mandy Carideo collected the save to keep Ursinus ahead by one. Miway through the first half, the Bears continued to push the pressure adding three corner kicks and three shots on goal but were turned away from the Owls defense and still lead by one. With less than a minute remaining in the half, Ursinus nearly extended their lead to two as junior Alicia Page fired a shot on goal within the box. After a 50-50 ball was won by the Bears within the box, Page split two defenders leading to a one-on-one opportunity with the Owls netminder. Unfortunately, Page's scoring chance was saved by the Owls goalkeeper as the Bears entered halftime leading 1-0.

The Bears tallied the first three shots of the second half but came away empy as Harvey, senior Rianne Moll, and junior Kalli Roskos each recorded shots for Ursinus. At the 64:38-mark, Bryn Mawr found the equalizer as Sankar Lourdes recorded her second goal of the season to tie the contest at one apiece. On a corner kick, an Owls header deflected off the crossbar, but Lourdes corralled the rebound and scored for the Owls. With 13:11 remaining in the contest, junior Adriana Careless played a corner into the box finding sophomore Holly Joseph for a header attempt. Joseph's shot towards the left post was saved by an Owls defender to keep the contest tied. Bryn Mawr recorded the final shot of the contest, but Carideo and the Bears denied the chance as the contest ended as a 1-1 draw.

Ursinus held a 19-8 advantage in shots on goal, a 13-5 lead in shots, and a 10-1 edge in corner kick opportunities. In goal, Carideo collected the draw behind four saves, while Bryn Mawr's Maeve Slemko finished with a game-high 12 saves over 90 minutes of action.
