No. 18 Field Hockey Powers Past Haverford, 4-1

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The No. 18 Ursinus College Field Hockey team pushed its win streak to four games with a decisive 4-1 win over Haverford on Wednesday night at the Snell Alumnae Field in Centennial Conference action.

With the win, the Bears improved to 10-4 overall and 6-2 in Centennial Conference play while solidifying a spot in the Centennial Conference Tournament with two conference games left to play. Meanwhile, the Fords fell to 7-7 overall and 3-4 in conference action.

The Bears went right to work off the start and took an early 1-0 lead in the fourth minute when senior Maeve Montgomery hammered a goal in off a penalty corner. Ursinus continued to put pressure on the Fords net but were unable to extend its lead. Haverford got its first extended time in the Bears zone and cashed in off a penalty corner of its own in the eighth minute to level the score at one. Haverford nearly took the lead in the 19th minute when a pass from a corner was sent just wide of the cage. Junior Lauren Sieczkowski gave the Bears the lead for good with her first collegiate goal in the 24th minute from a shot off a corner.

It was all Ursinus in the third quarter as they dominated possession throughout and extended its lead to 3-1 in the 38th minute off a goal from senior Mary Lauren Franz. Sophomore Marie Brainard capped the scoring just over two minutes later after beating the Fords goalkeeper from a deep pass into the circle from first-year Lauren Habakus. Haverford did not record a shot in the second half until the 57th minute and had a shot saved in the final minute.

The Bears held a commanding 19-5 shots advantage and a 14-2 edge in shots on goal. Ursinus also held a convincing 13-5 advantage in penalty corners. Junior goalkeeper Adriana Palladinetti earned the win with 45 minutes of action while classmate Susie Miller made the lone save for Ursinus in the final 15 minutes. Mary Smith made eight saves for Haverford in the first 45 minutes while Lindsey Darby made the final two.

Four different Bears scored in the contest with three coming unassisted.

Ursinus returns to action on Saturday, October 26th as they will travel to face Dickinson at 12:00 p.m.
