Last Second Goal Results in Draw for Women's Soccer

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's soccer team-maintained momentum throughout most of the contest but earned a 1-1 draw versus Muhlenberg College on Wednesday evening from Patterson Field.

Sophomore defender Holly Joseph highlighted the game with her first career goal coming off a setup piece in the 62nd minute. Unfortunately, Muhlenberg was awarded a penalty kick in the closing seconds resulting in the fourth draw of the season.

First-year Kaleigh Evans tallied the first two scoring chances for the Bears as the first missed wide left and the second chance was saved by the Mules netminder. At the 18:53-mark, Ursinus nearly capitalized off a corner opportunity when sophomore defender Maddie Jolie's head missed just wide right of the net. Muhlenberg responded with an opportunity from Bri Astbury, but her shot deflected off the woodwork and out of danger to keep the contest scoreless. Ursinus continued the offensive pressure by firing a trio of shots on goal, but the Mules stopped each chance as the contest entered halftime tied at zero.

The Bears carried the momentum into the second half as junior midfielder Adriana Careless nearly broke the scoreless tie as her scoring chance was saved at the 62:58-mark. Just 20 seconds later, senior Grace Senese fired an arching cross into the box finding Joseph along the back post for the go-ahead goal. Ursinus continued to maintain possession as they recorded a trio of shots over the remainder of the second half, but still only held a 1-0 advantage heading into the final minutes. With under 15 seconds remaining, Muhlenberg's Lucy Atwood drew a foul inside the box while attempting a cross. Eliana Nelson-Levy stepped up for the Mules and her initial penalty kick was saved by senior netminder Mandy Carideo, but the follow up shot found the back of the net for the equalizer with nine seconds remaining in the contest.

Ursinus held a 15-7 lead in shots, a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal, and an 8-1 edge in corner kick opportunities. Carideo collected two saves in goal, while Muhlenberg's Megan Stairs totaled a game-high five stops.

The Bears return to action on Saturday, November 2nd as they celebrate Senior Day by hosting Gettysburg College at 12pm from Patterson Field.
