Women's Soccer Battles Washington College to 0-0 Draw

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – During a back-and-forth battle, the Ursinus College women's soccer team earned a 0-0 draw against Washington College on Saturday afternoon from Patterson Field.

With the tie, Ursinus moves to 5-3-2 on the season and 0-2-1 in Centennial Conference play. Meanwhile, the Shorewomen now sit at 5-1-5 overall and 1-1-1 in conference action. Today's result marks the third consecutive scoreless draw between the two programs over the last three seasons.

Each team opened the contest by recording a shot on goal with each goalie stepping up and denying the opportunities throughout the first 10 minutes of play. During the 26th minute, Ursinus tallied a pair of corner kick chances and a trio of shots. Sophomore Holly Joseph nearly added the opening score as a corner from junior Adriana Carless found Joseph on the far post, but unfortunately her shot deflected off the post. Juniors Alicia Page and Paige Flaugh followed up with shots of their own, however Page's shot was blocked and Flaugh's opportunity missed high. The Bears collected back-to-back corner kick opportunities during the 34th minute but came empty handed. Washington College added the final scoring chance on goal in the half as Reagan Longridge fired a shot on goal that needed a diving from senior netminder Mandy Carideo to keep the contest scoreless at halftime.

Washington College earned a pair of corner kick chances to open the second half, however much of the period remained a battle between the midfielders as each team struggled to record a shot on goal. Carideo and the Bears came up huge over the last 10 minutes of action denying multiple Shorewomen scoring opportunities and collected a pair of saves over that time. Washington College's best opportunity came at the 83:27-mark as Longridge fired a shot on goal, but it deflected off the woodwork resulting in the 0-0 draw between the two teams.

Washington College held a 14-5 advantage in shots and a 5-4 edge in corner kick opportunities. In goal, Carideo earned her first complete game shutout of the season behind five saves, while Washington College's Olivia Allen collected the draw recording one save over 90 minutes of action.

The Bears return to action on Tuesday, October 8th as they travel to Lancaster, Pennsylvania for a Centennial Conference matchup against Franklin & Marshall College at 7 p.m.
