Football Trio Garners D3football.com All-Region Honors

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – A trio of senior Ursinus Football players were named to the D3football.com All-Region 2 third team, announced by the website on Wednesday morning.

Running back Tony Holden, defensive end Connor Carter, and safety Ryan DiVergilis all earned Second Team honors. It is the first time in each of the three players respective careers that they have earned All-Region honors.

This is the 20th annual D3football.com All-Region Teams. Players were nominated for these awards by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools, and schools and conferences were contacted multiple times as the season wound down to remind them to make their players eligible. In total, 1,210 players were nominated, a new high.

All-Region teams are selected in balloting by sports information directors in each region and D3football.com staff. All players nominated for All-Region are eligible to be considered for the D3football.com All-America Team. The All-America teams will be announced on Jan. 2, 2025.

Holden earned postseason accolade from D3football.com after putting together one of the most decorated seasons for a running back at Ursinus. He became the first Bears running back since Bill Sedgwick in 1993 to be named the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Year and was named All-Centennial first team. The Brooklyn native was dominant at his position from start to finish all season as he yarded the Centennial while ranking ninth in all of Division III with 1,316 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns that tied for 10th in Division III. Holden rushed for over 100+ yards in eight of the 11 Bears games this season and became the third Bear in program history to rush for over 3,000 yards for his career. His yards this season were the third most all-time in a single season by an Ursinus running back and he sits third all-time in program history with 3,066 career rushing yards.

Carter had his best season to date for Ursinus and was one of the most feared pass rushers in the Centennial Conference with a conference-leading 13.5 sacks that also tied for seventh in NCAA Division III. He ranked second in the Centennial with 19.0 tackles for loss and on the team with 72 total tackles (34 solo). He had two multi-sack outings and had at least one sack in each of the last four Bears games, while forcing two fumbles and recovering one. He earned All-Centennial first team honors for the first time in his career.

DiVergilis became the fifth Ursinus player in program history to become a three-time All-Centennial First Team selection in addition to his debut on the D3football.com All-Region roster. He tied for second in the Centennial Conference with three interceptions and provided one of the defining plays of the season by returning a 47-yard interception for a touchdown against Franklin & Marshall in October. DiVergilis has totaled 64 tackles (30 solo) and broke up six passes.

This is the fourth straight season that the Bears had at least one player make the D3football.com all-region team.
