Six Football Players Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Six Ursinus Football players were named Academic All District honorees by the College Sports Communicators (CSC), the organization announced Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Ryan DiVergilis, along with juniors Jordan Carr, Deane Leader, Neil O'Donnell, and Alan Paturzo, plus sophomore Jason Bernard all earned spots on the team. All but Bernard are now multi-time selections to the team.

The CSC Academic All-District football team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the classroom and on the field of competition.  Academic All-District honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. Student-athletes selected as CSC Academic All-America finalists are denoted with an asterisk on the list above and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members.

DiVergilis, a media and communication studies major, registered his third-straight Academic All-District honor. He tied for second in the Centennial Conference with three interceptions and totaled 64 tackles (30 solo) while breaking up six passes. The Media and Communications Studies major earned D3football.com All-Region honors for the first time in his career this week and garnered his third All-Centennial First Team honor. DiVergilis also earned PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Football team, Academic All-Centennial team, and Centennial Conference Honor Roll once again.

A biochemistry major, Carr earned All-Centennial first team honors at punter. He ranked fourth in the Centennial by averaging 35.5 yards per punt and tied for the Centennial lead by landing 15 punts inside opponents 20-yard line along with four 50-yard punts. He made eight field goals in 2024 that was highlighted by successfully knocking through both attempts in the NCAA Tournament.

Leader, a business major, maintained center duties and took home his second straight All-Centennial honor and elevated his nod from honorable mention in 2023 to second team in 2024. He started all 11 games at center for the Bears and helped the Ursinus offense to new heights in 2024 by leading the Centennial in total yards and the second highest scoring offense.

A political science major, O'Donnell once again started all 11 games on the Bears offensive line, this time being at left guard. O'Donnell helped guide the Ursinus offense as one of the best in the Centennial Conference as they led the Centennial in total yards per game while ranking second in points per game. Ursinus decisively had the top rushing offense in the Centennial as well.

Paturzo, a health and exercise physiology major, continued to serve as a reserve quarterback in all 11 games this season and as the team's primary holder for field goal/extra point attempts. He completed one pass for 16 yards against Rowan.

Bernard makes his debut on the team after appearing in 10 games as a reserve running back and ranked second on the team with 462 rushing yards and scored two touchdowns. The health and exercise physiology major rushed over 100 yard in back-to-back games for the Bears in November with a career-high 128 coming against McDaniel.
