Men's Basketball Wraps Up Cruzin Classic Against Wartburg

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Ursinus Men's Basketball team let a halftime lead slip away in their second game of the Cruzin Classic at Saint Thomas University against Wartburg 79-72 on Saturday afternoon.
 
 
Senior Trevor Wall led the Bears with 28 points behind going 11-of-24 from the field and 4-of-7 from three-point range while adding four rebounds plus two assists. Junior Mohamed Toure added 12 points and seven rebounds while senior Marlin Wise plus sophomore Luke Nieman added 10 points apiece.
 
 
Ursinus scored the first six points of the game and jumped out to a commanding 17-4 lead at the 14:40-mark after a strong start from the field. The Bears continued their torrid start to the game by stretching its lead out to 34-7 at the 8:24-mark of the first half as they limited Wartburg to just two field goals in the first 12 minutes of the game. The Knights began to close back in by using a 17-4 run over the span of five minutes to get within 38-24 with 2:35 left in the first half. Ursinus worked its lead back out to 42-25 and led 42-27 at the half.
 
 
The Bears kicked off the second half by making a three-pointer before Wartburg ran off 13 straight points to make it a 45-40 game at the 14:39-mark. Ursinus got its lead back out to as many as nine points at 54-45 with 10:36 left in the second half until Wartburg once again scored 13 unanswered points to go up 58-54 at the 7:48-mark. The Bears reclaimed the lead at 63-60 following a three-pointer from Wall at the 4:53-mark and traded baskets that left the score tied at 67 with 2:57 left in regulation. Wartburg took control by scoring nine straight points in a decisive run.
 
 
The Bears shot 41.2 percent from the field (28-of-68) and 9-of-29 (31%) from three-point range. Ursinus went just 7-of-14 (50%) from the free throw line as well. Wartburg shot 40 percent (26-of-65) from the field behind shooting 50 percent in the second half and 27.3 percent (9-of-33) from deep. The Knights shot 66.7 percent (18-of-27) from the free throw line and held a 46-43 rebounding advantage.
 
 
Ursinus returns to action on Saturday, December 28th as they will take on Brevard at Randolph-Macon's Suyes Yellow Jackets Classic at 2:00 p.m.
