Women's Lacrosse Falls on the Road at Rowan

GLASSBORO, N.J. -  The Ursinus College women's lacrosse team was unable to overcome an early first quarter deficit falling to Rowan University 18-10, on Saturday afternoon.

 
With the loss Ursinus falls to 1-1 overall, while Rowan improved to 2-0 to start the season.
 

Junior Grace Lynch paced the Bears offense with four goals on five shots, while creating a caused turnover. Classmate Maeve Leonzi added two goals and three ground balls, while sophomore Ashley Noto collected two goals and a team-high two assists.

 
Rowan scored the opening goal at the 12:53-mark as they capitalized on a Bears turnover to take an early 1-0 advantage. Noto quickly answered with her third goal of the season to tie the game, but a 5-0 run from the Profs extended their lead to 6-1 with 4:11 remaining in the opening stanza. The Bears started to battle back by scoring back-to-back goals from Leonzi and senior Mary Michaud cutting their deficit to three. Leonzi's goal came off a feed from Noto in front of the net, while Michaud made her defender miss and cut to the crease for her third goal of the season. The Profs scored the final goal of the period to collect a 7-3 advantage heading into the second quarter.
 
 
In the second stanza, Rowan extended their lead to 9-3 behind back-to-back goals and controlled a six goal with 8:20 remaining in the first half. The Bears quickly regained momentum in the contest as Lynch scored twice within a minute to cut the Bears deficit to four with 5:10 to play in the period. The Bears held Rowan scoreless for nearly eight minutes of play, but a goal with 19 seconds remaining gave the Profs a 10-5 halftime lead.
 

Ursinus started to battle back at the beginning of the second half as Lunch and Noto each recorded goals to bring the Bears deficit to three at the 11:40-mark. After nearly three minutes of scoreless action, Rowan used a 3-0 run over the remainder of the third stanza to earn a 13-7 lead with one quarter remaining. In the final period, Rowan opened with a goal to stretch their lead to seven, but first-year Ryann Buckner answered with her first collegiate goal at the 12:39-mark. Rowan closed out the contest on a 4-2 run enroute to the 18-10 victory.
 

Elaina Corson led the Profs with six points behind five goals and an assist, while Molly Green added four goals and six ground balls. Rowan held a 29-22 advantage in shots while finishing with a 16-12 edge in draw controls.
 

The Bears will return to action on Wednesday, February 28th as they travel to Glenside, Pennsylvania for a non-conference matchup against Arcadia University at 4 p.m.
