COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Women's Lacrosse team was unable to overcome a second half surge from Cabrini as they dropped a 16-11 contest to the Cavaliers on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Patterson Field.
Cabrini won the first draw control and scored on its opening possession of the game to take the initial 1-0 lead before the Bears ran off three straight tallies. Sophomore
Julia McCann tied the game at the 13:04-mark off a feed from junior
Grace Lynch before Lynch tallied one of her own just under a minute later to give Ursinus a 2-1 lead. Junior
Maeve Leonzi capped the run with a free position shot goal at the 8:31-mark. Cabrini answered with a free position shot goal of their own that was countered by goals from Lynch and Leonzi that made it 5-2 Bears at the 6:10-mark. The Cavaliers added another free position shot goal that made it a 5-3 game, but Ursinus got another back-to-back goal scoring to go up 7-3. Noto scored at the 4:17-mark and first-year
Jaime Michaud converted a free position shot goal 40 seconds later. Cabrini took advantage of a Bears turnover to score a goal in the waning seconds of the first quarter that made it 7-4. Leonzi got the scoring in the second quarter going at the 11:44-mark with her third of the game to put the Bears up 8-4. Cabrini made it 8-5 from another free position shot goal to only be countered by Leonzi on a woman-down situation with five minutes left in the second quarter to put Ursinus up 9-5. However, the tide began to turn when Cabrini closed the quarter with three straight goals to make it 9-8 headed into the break.
McCann took advantage of a woman-up situation to put the Bears up 10-8 at the 10:45-mark. Unfortunately for the Bears, Cabrini reeled off eight straight goals while not letting up another for a span of just over 21 minutes to pull away for the win.
Cabrini held a 35-27 shot advantage for the game behind out-shooting the Bears 22-8 in the second half while holding a 24-17 edge in shots on goal. The Bears held a slight edge in ground balls at 26-24 and the Cavaliers held a 17-14 advantage in draw controls. Sophomore goalkeeper
