Softball Bested by Haverford

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Softball team dropped a pair of games to Haverford on Tuesday afternoon at the Snell Softball Field in their final home regular season doubleheader.

The Bears got the initial 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when senior Sara Sullivan doubled to score junior Samantha Mallen from second base before being thrown out at third trying to extend the hit into a triple. Sophomore Kayla Carr extended the Bears lead in the bottom of the third when she hit her program single-season record 16th double of the season with two outs that made it 2-0. However, the Fords cam alive in the top of the fifth with five runs off four hits that proved to be decisive to go up 5-2. Each teams added a run in the top of the seventh to leave the final score at 6-3. Mallen went 3-of-4 from the plate with an RBI plus run scored while Sullivan went 2-for-4 with a RBI.

In game two, the Bears once again struck first when Sullivan drove in Mallen with a groundout after she led off the game with a single plus stolen base. The Fords scored three runs in the third, five runs in the fourth, and five runs in the 5th to enact the run rule after five complete innings to end the game.
