ALLENTOWN, Pa. – What first started as a dream has now become the standard. The Ursinus Men's Track & Field team claimed the Centennial Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship for the third year in a row behind a balanced and methodical Sunday afternoon at Muhlenberg College.
Coming just one point off the program meet record set in 2022, which began the run, the Bears scored a team total of 214 points to best Johns Hopkins once again, who scored 196.5 points during the weekend. Ursinus finished off the Centennial meet with 10 medals behind three golds, five silvers, and two bronze.
Sophomore
Aiden Tobin shined on the big stage once again by having a hand in all three gold medals on Sunday. Tobin secured a silver to start the day with seniors
Daniel Tabor and
Collin Ney along with first-year
Riley Ford in the 4x100 after recording a time of 42.28. Tobin turned to the individual events and topped his own school record in the 100 meters on his gold-medal winning time of 10.71. He then defended his 200 title decisively with a time of 21.68.
First-year
Zorion Ferreira impressed in the 110-meter hurdles by taking silver with a personal best time of 15.30. Senior
Devon Greaves placed fifth in the race with a time of 16.07 before going on to grab the bronze medal in the 400 meter hurdles behind a season best time of 55.96. Ferreira set another personal time in the 400 hurdles with his time of 56.11 that placed him fourth while junior
Mason Jolivette finished fifth with his season best time of 57.51. Sophomore
Patrick Ryan rounded out the group in the 400 hurdles in seventh with a personal best time of 58.75.
Tabor added a silver in a highly-contested 400 meters race with a time of 48.30 and senior
Payton Stanziani took home the bronze on his personal best time of 49.04. Ney finished fifth in the 400 after crossing the line at 50.01. Tabor also competed in the 100 and 200 meters and placed sixth in the 200 (22.47) after finishing eighth in the 100 (11.60). Jolivette recorded a personal best in the 100 and finished sixth on his time of 11.17 while Stanziani finished eighth in the 200 on a time of 24.32.
Ursinus got a huge boost from its mid-distance runners to help pull away from the Blue Jays. Senior
Tucker McGrath and sophomore
Liam Johnston finished back-to-back in the 1500 in fourth and fifth place. McGrath crossed the line at 4:01.56 while Johnston was right behind at a 4:02.02. Junior
Christian Rosado led a trio of Bears in the 800 behind a time of 1:57.54 that placed him sixth overall. Classmates
Paul Faggioli and
David Kenny were seventh and eighth on times of 2:01.31 and 2:01.83, respectively.
In the field, the Bears added a pair of silvers in both throwing events held on Sunday. Junior
Tom Wood brought home silver in the shot put with a throw of 15.19 meters and has now claimed silver in both indoor and outdoor Centennial Conference meets this season. First-year
Jayden McKeen continued his breakout run in the javelin by earning silver in his first outdoor Centennial meet after recording a throw of 57.63 meters. Junior
Chase Shaneman placed fourth in the javelin behind a mark of 52.09 meters and junior
Eric Sugarman led a string of Bears that showcased the Ursinus depth in the event. Sugarman finished sixth with his best throw of 46.52 meters, junior
Eric Tanz was seventh on a 46.10 meter throw, Ford rounded out the point scorers in eighth on a 45.97 meter throw, and junior
Anthony Peloro was ninth on a 44.60 meter mark. Sophomore
Carter Kensil earned a top-10 finish in the shot put on his seventh place throw of 12.79 meters.
The 4x400 squad did the honors of putting the cherry on top by winning the Bears fourth gold medal in the outdoor 4x400 in the past five championships held. Tobin, Jolivette, Greaves, and Stanziani did the honors this season for Ursinus by recording a time of 3:19.76. Between the indoor and outdoor Centennial Championships, the Bears have won six straight 4x400 titles since February 2022.
Ursinus will take a week to celebrate another Centennial title before setting turning focus to send more entries to the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Myrtle Beach, S.C. from May 23rd to the 25th. The Bears will start a set of Last Chance Meets on Monday, May 13th at the Widener Final Qualifier Meet which starts at 11:00 a.m.
