Women's Soccer Powers Past Mount Aloysius, 5-0

CRESSON, Pa. – An all-around performance powered the Ursinus College women's soccer team to a 5-0 shutout victory over Mount Aloysius College on Saturday afternoon from Kelly Field.

With the victory, Ursinus improved to 4-0-1 on the season while the Mounties fell to 0-4-1 overall.  The Bears scored twice within the first ten minutes of action, before a pair of second half goals, and stellar defense led to the victory. First-year forward Kaleigh Evans paced the Bears offense scoring two goals, while senior forward Kayla Harvey netted a goal and two assists. It marks as Evans third career contest and second consecutive game with at least two goals. For Harvey, it was her first career multi-assist game while adding her first goal of the season as well.

The Bears wasted no time putting offensive pressure on the Mounties as they recorded the opening two shots on goal with each scoring opportunity being saved by Mount Aloysius' netminder Brooke Mitchell. During the sixth minute, Harvey sent a through ball towards first-year forward Taylor Pezulich with plenty of attacking space in the offensive half. Pezulich dribbled towards the Mounties' netminder before sending a cross to Evans for the opening score and giving Ursinus a 1-0 lead. Five minutes later, Harvey corralled a rebound off the post and sent a shot past the defense and into the back of the net to stretch the Bears lead to two. At the 15:12-mark, Mount Aloysius recorded their first shot on goal, but the Bears defense and first-year netminder Mallory Toomey denied the opportunity to keep the lead at two. Ursinus extended their lead during the 22nd minute as Evans netted her second goal of the day and seventh of the season to stretch the Bears lead to three. Senior Grace Senese found Harvey around midfield and her pass went overtop the defense and left Evans's one-on-one with the Mounties' netminder. Evans tapped a chip shot over the goalie's head and into the goal. The Bears tallied four more shots on goal during the remainder of the first half with each opportunity being saved by the Mounties defense to give Ursinus a 3-0 halftime lead.

Each team opened the second half by recording one shot apiece, before the Bears tallied back-to-back scoring opportunities. Ursinus added an insurance goal in the 70th minute as sophomore Sam Wechsler scored her first collegiate goal to extend the Bears lead to four. Wechsler received a pass from Harvey at the top of the box, before firing a right-footed shot towards the far post for the goal. The Bears added the final tally in the 83rd minute as junior Alicia Page assisted first-year Emma Woch on her first career goal to give Ursinus the 5-0 victory. After a throw-in from sophomore Gwyn Krystkiewicz allowed Page to beat her defender down the far sideline, her cross into the box found Woch with space in front of the net for the goal.

Toomey earned her first collegiate victory for the Bears behind two saves in 90 minutes of action, while Mitchell suffered the loss recording 12 saves on the day. The Bears held a 30-2 advantage in shots, a 17-2 lead in shots on goal, and a 5-1 edge in corner kick opportunities.

The Bears return to action on Wednesday, September 18th as they host Susquehanna University at 7:30 p.m. from Patterson Field.
