Volleyball Bested by Marymount, 3-1

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Volleyball team was unable to overcome a slow start as they dropped a 3-1 match (14-25, 21-25, 25-19, 20-25) to Marymount on Friday night at Helfferich Hall.
 
 
Junior Reena Robinson matched her career-high of 13 kills to lead the Bears behind hitting .375 and tallied three digs. Senior Caroline Sherman posted eight kills and four digs while junior Mel Eglinton added seven kills plus seven digs. Senior Rachel Bernard and junior Erin Dychdala each recorded 17 assists.
 
 
After the Bears took the opening point of the match, the Saints reeled off six straight points to go up 6-1. Marymount took advantage of Bears attack and service errors to build a lead out to 10 points at 18-8 before closing the set out at 25-14.
 
 
Marymount jumped out to an early advantage again in the second set at 9-5 before the Bears rallied to get within two points at 11-9. The Saints responded to go up 15-10 after taking four of the next five points, but Ursinus rallied to tie the set at 18 after winning eight of the next 11 points. After the teams traded service errors, the Saints took control by winning six of the next eight points to go up 2-0 in the match.
 
 
The Bears went up 3-2 to start the third set before the Saints won six of the next eight points to go up 8-5. However, Ursinus staved off Marymount by winning 11 of the next 13 points to go up 16-10. Marymount pulled within three points twice but got no closer than that in the set. The Bears pulled away by winning five of the last seven points.
 
 
The teams traded points to start the fourth set until the Saints broke open with a 3-0 run to go up 6-3. Marymount worked its lead out to 10-7 before Ursinus won five of the next six points to go up 12-11. The Bears went up 14-12 and the Saints struck back by winning four of the next five points to go back in front at 16-15. Ursinus responded by retaking the lead at 18-17, but the Saints put the match away by winning eight of the last 10 points.
 
 
Ursinus returns to action on Tuesday, September 24th as they will host Immaculata at 7:00 p.m.
