Men's Soccer Opens Centennial Conference Play Against McDaniel

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa – The Ursinus Men's Soccer team dropped a 2-0 contest to McDaniel on Saturday morning in their Centennial Conference opener.
 
 
After some play in the midfield in the opening minutes, the first big opportunity of the game came in the 15th minute when the Bears got pressure but had a goal waved offsides. Junior Julian Faust had a low shot saved in the 21st minute before McDaniel cashed in with a goal in the 24th minute. Sophomore Amar Dzombalic nearly leveled the score in the 41st minute but had his shot hit off the post.
 
 
McDaniel got the first chance off in the second half that was saved in 50th minute before the Bears countered with a shot on goal in the 56th minute. The Green Terror got an insurance goal in the 70th minute and the Bears had one last good chance saved on a high shot in the 71st minute.
 
 
Each team tallied 11 shots with the Green Terror holding an 8-5 edge in the second half and a 6-3 overall margin in shots on goal. Bear senior goalkeeper Zach Matik made four saves in the full 90 minutes while Green Terror goalkeeper Tate Roth tallied three saves.
 
 
The Bears return to action on Tuesday, September 24th as they will host Wilkes in non-conference action at 7:30 p.m.
