COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 match against Lebanon Valley College on Wednesday afternoon from Patterson Field.
With the loss, Ursinus falls to 5-2-1 on the season while the Flying Dutchmen improved to 4-3 overall and extend their winning streak to four games.
Lebanon Valley tallied the opening shot on goal, before Ursinus responded with back-to-back opportunities during the 10th minute. At the 14:13-mark, first-year forward
Kaleigh Evans received a pass just outside the box before making a touch and sending a bouncing shot on goal that was saved by the LVC netminder. Lebanon Valley tallied the first score of the contest during the 27th minute as a pass from Jordan Lasky setup teammate Darrian Berkheimer for a one-on-one opportunity with the Bears. Berkheimer's shot snuck past the Bears' goalkeeper and into the back of the cage for her fourth goal of the season and increasing the Flying Dutchmen lead to 1-0. The remainder of the first half consisted of a battle between the midfields as Ursinus entered the halftime break trailing by one.
Ursinus continued the pressure in the second half as Evans and senior
Carlie Shiller each recorded shots during the 49th minute, but both were turned away by the Flying Dutchmen defense. With under 38 minutes to play, the Bears added four consecutive shots over a four-minute span but were unable to find the equalizer as they still trailed by one. At the 75:42-mark, first-year
Emma Woch fired a shot on goal, but her shot found the gloves of the Flying Dutchmen netminder to keep the Bears off the board. Ursinus added a corner kick opportunity in the 84th minute, but were unable to find the equalizer resulting in the 1-0 defeat to Lebanon Valley.
The Bears held a 14-9 advantage in shots, a 5-4 edge in shots on goal, and a 2-1 lead in corner kick opportunities. Lebanon Valley's Camryn Porter collected the victory in goal behind five saves, while Carideo was dealt the loss logging one save over 35 minutes of action.
The Bears will return to action on Saturday as they travel to Baltimore, Maryland for a Centennial Conference matchup versus No. 11 Johns Hopkins University at 6 p.m.
