BALTIMORE, MD. – The Ursinus College women's soccer team fell to No. 11 Johns Hopkins by a 6-0 score on Saturday evening from Homewood Field.
With the loss, Ursinus falls to 5-3-1 overall and 0-2 in Centennial Conference action while the Blue Jays improved to 5-1-3 on the season and 3-0 in conference play. For the Blue Jays, Katie Chiampas and Jessica Camken each scored two goals in the second half en route to the Centennial Conference victory.
During the first 15 minutes of action, Johns Hopkins recorded the first two shots on goal, but each were denied by the Bears defense and sophomore netminder
Alyssa Marraffino. At the 26:02-mark, Ursinus nearly took the lead as first-year
Kaleigh Evans had her shot saved by the Blue Jays netminder. For the Bears, junior Adriana Carless tallied a shot on goal, but the scoring chance was denied as each team entered halftime tied at zero apiece.
The Blue Jays quickly amped up the pressure in the second half as they added the first goal during the 49th minute when Chiampas connected to give Johns Hopkins a 1-0 lead. Just eight minutes later, the Blue Jays added their second goal as Katie Sullivan added a goal to give Johns Hopkins a 2-0 lead in the second half. Later in the 69th minute, Johns Hopkins added to their lead with a goal from Carolyn Johnson to increase their lead to 3-0. The Blue Jays added a trio of goals during the second half en route to the 6-0 Centennial Conference victory.
Johns Hopkins held a 14-3 advantage in shots on goal and an 8-0 edge in corner kick opportunities. For the Bears, Marraffino suffered the loss in goal after earning eight saves over 90 minutes of action. Meanwhile the Blue Jays, Allyson Shick earned the victory behind a shutout and three saves.
The Bears will return to action on Saturday, October 5th as they host Washington College for a Centennial Conference matchup starting at noon from Patterson Field.
