Men's Basketball Rallies for 62-61 win at McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Ursinus Men's Basketball team rallied in the second half to secure a key 62-61 road win over McDaniel on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference action.
 
 
With the win, the Bears improved to 11-6 overall and 4-1 in Centennial Conference play. Meanwhile, the Green Terror fell to the same overall record but 1-4 in Centennial Conference action.
 
 
Senior Trevor Wall led all scorers all the floor with 20 points, his 12th 20+ point game of the season, behind going 8-of-14 from the field while grabbing five rebounds. Junior Nick Nocito added 12 points behind a near-perfect 6-of-7 from the field while totaling four rebounds and assists. Junior Mohamed Toure was the third Bear in double-figures with 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting and grabbed three rebounds.
 
 
McDaniel scored the first five points of the game and maintained an 11-6 lead at the 14:42-mark following a three-pointer. Ursinus took its first lead of the game at 12-11 following a 6-0 burst and completed a 15-5 run to go up 21-16 at the 9:16-mark following a three-pointer from Toure. The Bears took their largest lead of the half at 27-20 with 7:03 left in the first following a layup from Wall, but the Green Terror erased it with an 11-4 run to tie the score at 31. Ursinus scored just one point in the final 4:20 of the first half and McDaniel took advantage by taking a 35-32 lead into halftime.
 
 
Wall tied the score at 38 at the 16:10-mark and the Bears gained its first lead of the second half following a three-pointer from sophomore Luke Nieman that made it a 44-43 game. However, the Green Terror responded with a 12-3 run to take their largest lead of the game at 55-47 with 9:38 left in regulation. However, the Bears scored 10 straight points and held McDaniel without a point for a stretch of 5:31 to take the lead back at 57-55 at the 5:50-mark after a steal-and-score from Wall. Ursinus went over three minutes without scoring which allowed the Green Terror to go back in front at 59-57 with 2:29 left in the second half. Nocito and Wall hit back-to-back baskets to give the Bears a 61-59 lead at the 1:26-mark before McDaniel tied the game at 61 with 31 seconds left. Wall drew a foul with six seconds remaining and split his free throws which gave Ursinus a 62-61 lead. McDaniel drove the length of the floor but saw a three-pointer clank off the rim and a tip-in attempt get touch bounce off the side which preserved the win for Ursinus.
 
 
The Bears shot an efficient 61 percent (25-of-41) from the field and 33.3 percent (5-of-15) from three-point range. Ursinus went just 43.8 percent (7-of-16) from the free throw line and held a slight 26-23 rebounding advantage. McDaniel shot 46.2 percent (24-of-52) from the field and 40 percent (8-of-20) from three-point range. The Green Terror went 5-of-7 (71.4%) from the free throw line and scored 22 points off 13 Ursinus turnovers.
 
 
The Bears return to action on Wednesday, January 29th as they will travel to face Swarthmore at 8:00 p.m.
