Men's Basketball Battles Swarthmore

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Ursinus Men's Basketball team had a 78-71 setback to Swarthmore on Wednesday night in Centennial Conference action.
 
 
Senior Trevor Wall led the Bears with 27 points while adding two steals and one rebound. Wall now has five straight 20+ point games and 12 for the season. Juniors Mohamed Toure and Nick Nocito matched each other with 11 points while Nocito recorded eight assists.
 
 
Following back and forth action to start the game, the Garnet broke through and gained a 10-point advantage at 20-10 with 13:30 left in the first half following an 8-0 run. Swarthmore led by as many as 13 points at 37-24 with 6:29 left in the first half, but the Bears rallied with a 13-4 run to get within four points at 41-37 in the final minute of the half.
 
 
Swarthmore got a late basket to end the first half and maintained a multi-possession lead in the first eight minutes of the second half. Trailing 53-47, Ursinus ran off eight straight points to take their first lead of the second half at 55-53 with 10:45 remaining in regulation. Each team traded baskets until the Garnet pulled ahead with a 69-62 lead at the 4:04-mark of the second half. Ursinus rallied again to get within point at 69-68 at the 1:44-mark and Wall tied the game at 71 40 seconds later with a three-pointer. Unfortunately for the Bears, Wall's three-pointer were the last points of the night for Ursinus.
 
 
The Bears shot 41 percent (25-of-61) from the field and just 25.9 percent (7-of-27) from three-point range. Ursinus went 14-of-23 (60.9%) from the free throw line and forced 16 Swarthmore turnovers. Meanwhile, the Garnet shot 45.6 percent (26-of-57) from the field and 33.3 percent (8-of-24) from three-point range. Swarthmore went 18-of-25 (72%) from the free throw line and held a 40-34 rebounding advantage.
 
 
Ursinus hosts Dickinson on Saturday, February 1st at 1:00 p.m. for its next game.
