Volleyball Downed by No. 9 Johns Hopkins

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Women's Volleyball team suffered a loss in straight sets (25-20, 25-11, 25-11) to No. 9 Johns Hopkins on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference action.

Senior Lexi Couch led the Bears with six kills while adding three digs and senior Reena Robinson posted five kills. Senior Erin Dychdala paced the offense with 16 assists with four digs plus one kill.

The Bears stood toe-to-toe in the first set with the Blue Jays by taking the first two points of the set and holding a 7-5 lead following consecutive kills from Couch, Dychdala, and first-year Lauren McGinn. Hopkins won five of the next seven points to go up 10-9 before the Bears went back up 11-10. Johns Hopkins won four straight points to take a 14-11 lead, but the resilient Bears took five of seven of their own to tie the set back up at 16. A service error allowed Ursinus to tie the set at 17 until the Blue Jays finally seized control by taking eight of the last 11 points to win the set at 25-20.

The Blue Jays won the first four points of the second set before the Bears fought back by taking six of the next eight points to tie the set at six. However, the Blue Jays took control of the set by winning 11 of the next 14 points to go up 17-9. Johns Hopkins limited the Bears to just two more points after that and won set two 25-11.

Ursinus tied the third set up at three in the early play and trailed just 6-4 after a kill from junior Alonna McCummings. The Blue Jays followed by winning seven of the next nine points to go up 13-6. Ursinus did not get no closer than eight points in the rest of the set when Johns Hopkins stretched its lead to double digits as they closed the match out with back-to-back 25-11 set wins.

Ursinus returns to action on Wednesday, October 15th as they will travel to face Haverford at 7:00 p.m.
