Volleyball Taken Down by Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Ursinus Women's Volleyball team suffered a straight set loss (25-15, 25-14, 25-21) to Haverford on Wednesday night in Centennial Conference action.
 
 
Senior Reena Robinson led the Bears with 11 kills and first-year Lauren McGinn was next with six kills plus five digs. Senior Erin Dychdala paced the Bears offense with 18 assists.
 
 
Haverford gained an early 5-2 edge in the first set and ended up not trailing once in the set. The Bears closed back in to get within 8-6 before the Fords won four of the next five points to go up 12-7. Ursinus won five of the next seven points to get within 14-12, but once again the Fords responded by taking six of the next seven points to go up 20-13. Haverford ended up winning five of the next seven points to close out the first set.
 
 
A fast start from the Fords once again propelled them to an early 5-1 lead and extended it out to 9-3. The Bears got back within four points at 13-9 after trailing 13-7 before the Fords ran off six straight points to go up 19-9. Ursinus would get no closer than eight points in the rest of the set as Haverford won 25-14.
 
 
The Bears gained their first lead of the match after going up 3-1 in the third set until the Fords won three of the next four points that tied things up at four. Ursinus went back up 7-5 following a block from senior Mel Eglinton and junior Alonna McCummings and held a 9-6 advantage following an attack error. However, the Fords won four straight points to go up 10-9 until the Bears continued to battle and took the lead back at 15-14 following back-to-back points. A kill from Robinson tied the set back up at 17 before the Fords took control of the set with four straight points. The Bears got back within two points at 23-21 and Haverford ended the match by winning the last two points.  
 
 
Ursinus returns to action on Saturday, October 18th as they will host Washington College at 1:00 p.m.
