BALTIMORE, Md. – The Ursinus football team was defeated by No. 3 Johns Hopkins 52-21 on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference play.
The Blue Jays had a strong first half and scored on their first play of the game to take the initial 7-0 lead. Johns Hopkins took advantage of an interception and took a 17-0 lead after the first quarter. Johns Hopkins added two more touchdowns to go up 31-0 in the second quarter before the Bears got on the board when junior quarterback
Tristan Machado found senior wide receiver
Cody House for a 23-yard touchdown pass with 1:16 left in the first half. The Blue Jays quickly responded and carried a 38-7 lead into the half.
Ursinus scored on its first drive of the second half when senior running back
Jason Bernard scored on a 1-yard plunge to make it 38-14. The Blue Jays extended their lead with back-to-back touchdowns and Bernard scored a second touchdown in the fourth quarter to conclude the Bears scoring. Bernard finished with 44 yards on 10 carries with two touchdowns.
Three players led the Bears with eight tackles on defense and junior linebacker
Matt Agar had an interception as well with eight tackles.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, October 25
th as they will host Franklin & Marshall for homecoming at 1:00 p.m.
