Volleyball Swept by Franklin & Marshall in Straight Sets

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Ursinus Women's Volleyball team suffered a straight set loss (25-19, 25-11, 25-16) to Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday night in Centennial Conference action.
 
 
Senior Reena Robinson led the Bears with four kills and classmate Erin Dychdala posted nine assists. Junior Alexa Mazzeo had a match and season high of 15 digs.
 
 
The Bears went back and forth with the Diplomats to start in the first set and held a 4-3 lead. F&M won nine of the next 11 points to go up 12-6, but the Bears won five straight points to make it a 12-11 set. However, the Diplomats ended any momentum by taking nine of the next 13 points to go up 21-15. The Bears would get no closer than four points in the rest of the set as the Diplomats closed the set out.
 
 
The Diplomats came out red hot to start the second set by initially going up 5-1 before storming ahead with a 13-2 advantage. F&M extended its lead out to 20-8 and won the final five points to end the second set.
 
 
A kill from senior Mel Eglinton opened the third set up with an Ursinus point and the Diplomats countered by winning four straight points to go up 4-1. The Bears won three straight points to tie the set at four until the Diplomats responded by winning seven of the next nine points to go up 11-6. F&M extended its advantage out to 19-10 and the Bears had one last rally of four straight points to get within 19-14. The Diplomats closed the match out by taking six of the last eight points.
 
 
Ursinus returns to action on Saturday, November 1st as they will host Gettysburg at 12:00 p.m.
