COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Volleyball team was unable to sustain a strong start as they dropped a 3-1 match (25-21, 22-25, 18-25, 14-25) to Gettysburg on Saturday afternoon at Helfferich Hall.

Mel Eglinton led the Bears with 10 kills and tied for the team lead with nine digs. Senior
Reena Robinson added nine kills while classmate
Erin Dychdala led the Bears with 16 assists while adding five digs. Sophomore
Kayce Titus set a season-high with 12 assists and added five digs.
Ursinus took an early 4-2 lead in the first set and maintained it out to 6-4. Gettysburg won six of the next seven points to go up 10-7, but the Bears responded by taking 13 of the next 18 points to go up 20-15. The Bullets ripped off four straight points to make it 20-19 but would only get within one for the rest of the set. Ursinus led 22-21 and won the final three points to take the first set of the match.
Gettysburg responded by starting strong in the first set by taking the first three points and went up 6-1. The Bears fought back by winning eight of the next 10 points to take their first lead of the set at 9-8 and led 10-9 after a kill from junior
Alonna McCummings. However, the Bullets won 10 of the next 12 points to go up 19-12 in the set. Ursinus made a miraculous rally by winning 10 of the next 13 points to get within one point at 23-22, but Gettysburg staved off the Bears by taking the final two points to level the match at one.
The Bears gained the upper hand in the first set by going up 5-2 until the Bullets won five straight points to go up 7-5. Ursinus won three straight points to go up 8-7 to only be countered by four straight points to go up 11-8. The Bears won back-to-back points to get within one at 11-10, but Gettysburg responded again by winning five of the next six points to go up 16-11. Ursinus pulled within two points at 18-16 but that would be as close as they would get. Gettysburg won seven of the last nine points to go up 2-1 in the match.
Back-and-forth action started the fourth set as the teams traded runs to leave the set tied at four early. Gettysburg powered ahead by winning eight of the next nine points to go up 12-5, but the Bears rallied back to win seven of the next eight points to make it 13-12. However, Gettysburg took control of the set and match by winning 12 of the next 14 points.
Ursinus returns to action on Wednesday, November 5
th as they will host Muhlenberg for their final home game of the season at 7:30 p.m.
