LANCASTER, Pa. – Ursinus junior
Mohamed Abdelatty of the men's wrestling team was named the Centennial Conference Wrestler of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday morning.
Abdelatty posted a perfect 4-0 record with four bonus-point victories, including three falls, to help lead Ursinus to a 3-1 showing at the Gator Boots Duals in Nashville, Tenn. He opened the day with a second-period pin over Roman Martell of Wisconsin-Oshkosh to secure a 34-14 victory for the Bears. Facing No. 24 Luther with Ursinus trailing 24-21, Abdelatty delivered a match-winning pin of Ethan Peper in just 47-seconds to lift the Bears to a win over a nationally ranked opponent. After earning a major decision against Andy Vanscoy of No. 18 Baldwin Wallace, he closed the tournament with a fall at the 1:55 mark against Diego Morales to cap a 37-11 victory over Lakeland.
The honor marks the second Wrestler of the Week accolade of Abdelatty's career and makes him the third Bear to earn the distinction this season, joining juniors
Braden Kmak and
Andrew Schaen. A Lawrence, N.J., native, Abdelatty owns an 8-1 record and is ranked 12th at 285 pounds by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.
Ursinus returns to action Saturday, Jan. 10, when it hosts the Manganaro Duals beginning at 10 a.m.
