Gavares and Guy Claim Titles at New Standard Invitational

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. — The Ursinus women's wrestling team totaled 11 place-winners to finish second at the New Standard Invitational on Saturday, hosted by York College.

Junior Mandy Gavares (103 pounds) and sophomore Olivia Guy (110) paced the Bears' lineup by winning their respective weight classes. First-year Aubree Butler (110), Jurelys Peguero Del Rosario (180), junior Cloe Charlesworth (145), and senior Kalli Roskos (124) each earned runner-up finishes.

"The coaching staff is proud of how the women wrestled today," Director of Wrestling Joe Jamison said. "This is a great tournament to test ourselves against some really tough competition, and we stepped up to the challenge. Finishing second is something to be proud of. We only had three total finalists along with four other place winners last year; having two champions, doubling our finalists and increasing our number of other place winners really shows how far we've come as a program."

Ursinus recorded 133 team points to finish second in the standings, while Western New England won the team title with 171 points. Mount Union (118) finished third, York College (101.5) placed fourth and Eastern University (90.5) rounded out the top five in the 14-team field.

Gavares, the second seed in the 103-pound bracket, posted a 4-0 record to secure the Bears' first individual title. She opened by pinning New Jersey City's Marelys Lugo-Fernandez at the 1:48 mark before advancing to the semifinals via injury default. Gavares recorded a 12-2 victory over Lilie Normandie and then defeated Eastern's Jesenia Camargo by a 10-4 decision in the finals. She outscored Camargo 8-2 in the final period, highlighted by a four-point move to open the stanza.

In the 110-pound bracket, Guy claimed the individual title while Butler finished second. Guy earned a 10-0 win over Mount Union's Haley Hoffman before defeating Apprentice's Kaylee Campbell, 12-0, to reach the finals. Against Butler in the championship bout, Guy built an early 2-0 lead and secured the fall at the 1:10 mark. Butler, the No. 3 seed, posted a 10-0 victory over Arcadia's Madi Ridner in her opening bout before pinning second-seeded Victoria Orender of Western New England to advance to the finals.

Roskos posted a 3-1 record in the 124-pound bracket to earn a runner-up finish. She tallied a 55-second fall over Ithaca's Sophia Torlan and defeated Mount Union's Molly Luebke, 12-2, to reach the semifinals. After a 10-2 victory over Mount Union's Gabi Gartin, Roskos fell by an 8-4 decision against top-seeded Linda Holeman of Western New England in the finals.

Charlesworth, the No. 2 seed in the 145-pound bracket, went 3-1 with three first-period falls to finish second. She opened with a 36-second fall over McDaniel's Marla Samuel before pinning Arcadia's Molly Lubenow in 34 seconds to reach the semifinals. Charlesworth recorded a pin of Mount Union's Karlie Stith at the 1:00 mark but fell by second-period pin to Eastern's Zoey Haines in the final.

In the 180-pound bracket, Peguero Del Rosario received a bye in the round of 16 before defeating New Jersey City's Fabiana Josa by fall at the 1:36 mark to reach the semifinals. She followed with a fall at the 2:37 mark over Western New England's Mikayla Maloy before falling by a 6-2 decision against WNE's Atlyana Williams in the finals.

Junior Stacy Bloomfield placed fourth at 131 pounds, while juniors Paisley Fox (138), Gianna Perez (180), and first-year Kloi Tighe (124) placed fifth in their respective weight classes. Junior Emma Matera (160) rounded out the Bears' lineup by finishing sixth.
