Christopher Pucciarelli netted his 100th career point as the Ursinus Men's Lacrosse team dropped a 20-12 contest to Muhlenberg on Wednesday night in Centennial Conference action.
Muhlenberg opened the scoring with a goal at the 13:05-mark of the first quarter before first-year
Daniel Rice knotted things up at one just 16 seconds later. The Mules used back-to-back goals to go up 3-1 at the 5:48-mark of the first quarter but was countered by back-to-back goals by the Bears that made it just 1:41 later. Junior
Harry Sweitzer netted the first of two Ursinus goals in the run and classmate
Barrett Denlinger took advantage of a quick faceoff win to tie the game up. Denlinger kept his scoring run going with two more goals late in the first quarter following a Mules goal to give Ursinus a 5-4 lead headed into the second quarter. However, the Mules outscored the Bears 4-1 in the second quarter to take an 8-6 lead at halftime. Sweitzer scored his second goal of the game that initially tied the game at six at the 7:06-mark.
The Mules extended its lead to 10-6 at the 10:35-mark of the third quarter until the Bears made a charge with three straight goals to make it a one-goal game at 10-9 with 5:36 left in the third quarter. Sweitzer started the run at the 7:11-mark and was assisted by Pucciarelli for his 100th career points. Junior
Lars Homan struck at the 5:58-mark and
Ryan Dever capped the run after a fastbreak from a Mules turnover with his first goal of the game. Unfortunately for the Bears, the Mules slammed the door shut with eight unanswered goals to go up 18-9 at the 11:44-mark of the fourth quarter. Ursinus added three goals in the fourth quarter from junior
Chris Bryant, sophomore
Jared Laskin, and Sweitzer.
Muhlenberg held a 52-39 shot advantage and a 34-24 edge in shots on goal. The Mules held a 41-32 advantage in ground balls and a 21-15 edge in face offs wins. Sweitzer kept his strong April going with six points behind four goals and two assists for his fourth straight game with four goals. Denlinger scored three goals while Laskin added three points off two assists and one goal. Sophomore
Daniel Kupiec added two assists as well.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, April 26th as they will host McDaniel for Senior Day at 3:00 p.m.
