Williams' Homer Leads Baseball over Muhlenberg, 12-2

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Fueled by 10 runs over the final two innings, the Ursinus College baseball team cruised to a 12-2 victory over Muhlenberg College on Friday afternoon at Thomas Field.

With the win, Ursinus improved to 20-18 overall and 5-11 in Centennial Conference play. The Mules dropped to 17-20 overall and 6-10 in conference action.

Senior Jordan Williams led the Bears' offense, launching his first career home run and finishing 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Sophomore Brandon Sullivan and first-years Matthew Callahan and Devin Fogg each added two hits. On the mound, first-year Chase Martin (3-2) earned the win, pitching six innings while allowing three hits and one earned run.

Muhlenberg opened the scoring in the first inning with a two-out double that drove in a runner from first. Ursinus nearly tied the game in the bottom of the third, but a lineout stranded two runners in scoring position. Fogg recorded his first hit in the frame, while Williams reached on a walk.

The Bears took the lead in the fourth, scoring twice to go up 2-1. Junior Mitchell Garber led off with an infield single and moved into scoring position on a single by senior Jude Gilhool. After a sacrifice bunt advanced both runners, Callahan delivered a two-run single to center. Martin remained sharp, retiring the Mules in order in the fifth to extend his streak to seven consecutive batters retired. He notched a groundout, a strikeout and a flyout to quickly bring the Bears back to the plate.

Ursinus threatened again in the fifth, putting two runners in scoring position, but the Mules cut down a runner at home and escaped with a groundout. The Bears finally broke through in the sixth, plating four runs on two hits to stretch their lead to 6-1. Callahan lined a double down the left-field line, and junior George Nestor reached on a walk. After a sacrifice bunt, Williams launched a three-run homer to left field his first career long ball giving Ursinus a five-run cushion.

First-year Alex Grehawick took the mound in the seventh and allowed one run, but worked around two hits to strand a runner in scoring position. Ursinus tacked on six more runs in the bottom half, capitalizing on four hits and a defensive error to seal the 10-run win. Gilhool was hit by a pitch to start the inning, and first-year pinch runner John DiLello stole second before scoring on a single by senior Jakob Cantor. After two walks and a single, Ursinus scored on a wild pitch, and Sullivan followed with a two-run single to make it 10-2. Senior Andrew Richter added an RBI single and later came home on another wild pitch to round out the scoring.

The Bears will conclude their 2025 season by hosting No. 2 Johns Hopkins University on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
