SALISBURY, MD. – The Ursinus Men's soccer team opened play in the Salisbury Elmer Lord Memorial Tournament with a 2-1 setback to St. Mary's to open their season.
The Seahawks had the game's first shot on goal in the 23rd minute that was saved by Bears junior goalkeeper
Josiah Moore. In his first game as a Bear, junior
Matthew McFadden opened the scoring in the 29th minute with a goal after poking the ball over the Seahawks goalkeeper. However, the Seahawks began to get sustained pressure after yielding the goal and tied the game at one in the 39th minute off a rebound shot.
McFadden had a shot saved in the 69th minute before having another one stopped in the 77th minute. St. Mary's broke through for the game-winning goal in the 79th minute.
The Seahawks held a 13-5 shot advantage for the game and an 8-3 edge in shots on goal. St. Mary's also held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. Moore made six saves for the Bears in 90 minutes while Zack Reed tallied two saves in the full time.
Ursinus returns to action tomorrow, August 30th as they will complete action in the Elmer Lord Memorial Tournament against host Salisbury at 3:00 p.m.
