SALISBURY, Md. – The Ursinus Men's Soccer team concluded its opening weekend by being defeated 2-0 to Salisbury at the Sea Gulls Elmer Lord Memorial Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
The Sea Gulls controlled play early as they got three shots off in the first 13 minutes with two being saved by Bears junior goalkeeper
Josiah Moore. The pressure finally paid off for Salisbury as they took a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute. Junior
Matthew McFadden recorded the Bears first shot of the game in the 38th minute and had it saved up top and classmate
Simon Muther also had a shot saved in the final two minutes of the first half.
Ursinus had a shot to tie the game in the 71st minute as a chance from first-year
Michael McCool was saved. One minute later, Salisbury converted to extend its lead to 2-0. A shot in the 87th minute from senior
Colin Deal was stopped and the Bears did not get another shot off in the final three minutes.
Salisbury holds an 18-10 shot advantage and a 10-4 edge in shots on goal. The Sea Gulls also held a 10-3 edge in corner kicks. Moore made eight saves in the full 90 minutes while Nathen Jones tallied four saves for Salisbury in the full time.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, September 6th as they will travel to face Lycoming at 5:30 p.m.
